San Basilio De Palenque

We invite you to discover a town that has maintained its marked identity for more than 400 years: the little corner of Africa in Colombia. Here is the time it will take to get from one place to another You will learn the history of the first free people of America. You will connect with ancestors and the African roots of Palenque de Benkos Biohó (Founder of Palenque). Enjoy the dance show, learn their traditional dance steps, and play the drums. Learn the Bantu language from Guinea and Congo accompanied by a native guide. We will make a stop in the town square, the house of Kombilesa mi; the folkloric rap group, the museum house, the Palenque Viejo, and traditional medicine. At the end, we will have lunch a delicious typical Palenquero dish.

Amazing tour! We highly recommend this tour of the “little Africa” in Colombia. Romeo, our guide was knowledgeable, funny & multilingual. The people of Palenque were kind and hospitable. The history is absolutely inspiring and the food is delicious.

Our tour guide Romeo took us on an interactive trip through Pelengue. We started on the bus with a lesson in "lengua pelengue". Romeo didn't hesitate to answer questions while giving us a history lesson of Pelenque. We visited batata dance school which was a fun experience and finished with a delicious meal. Overall everything was great and highly recommended. My daughter suggested we take the tour and I'm glad we did.

This tour was AMAZING! Everything was prompt. We were picked up in Cartagena. Even though it was hot, the tour guides provided us with UV umbrellas, which made it very bearable. We walked around and learned about the history, people, and culture of Palenque. I was solo but everyone made me feel welcome. The people of Palenque have a rich history and a great culture. I would definitely recommend this for anyone coming to visit Cartagena.

Wonderful experience with a very unique history! The people were very kind and they welcomed us with open arms. The culture was one that I fully enjoyed learning about and participating in.

My experience was amazing . I was picked up from my hotel on time . The van was cool and comfortable. Our guide was fun , entertaining and knowledgeable. When we arrive at Palanque that’s when the amazement began. We were greeted at the sign with a palanque song. The dance school was entertaining but full of rich history and stories. The medicine man was so knowledgeable about herbs and curing ailments with a holistic approach . The plaza the boxing. Can go on and on . Please go on this tour you will not be disappointed. Wait wait wait ! The lunch provided was sooo tasty actually the best fish I had ever. Go on the tour !
