San Basilio De Palenque

We invite you to discover a town that has maintained its marked identity for more than 400 years: the little corner of Africa in Colombia. Here is the time it will take to get from one place to another You will learn the history of the first free people of America. You will connect with ancestors and the African roots of Palenque de Benkos Biohó (Founder of Palenque). Enjoy the dance show, learn their traditional dance steps, and play the drums. Learn the Bantu language from Guinea and Congo accompanied by a native guide. We will make a stop in the town square, the house of Kombilesa mi; the folkloric rap group, the museum house, the Palenque Viejo, and traditional medicine. At the end, we will have lunch a delicious typical Palenquero dish.

Our tour with Romeo was absolutely outstanding! From start to finish, he brought the history and culture of San Basilio de Palenque to life with passion, deep knowledge, and genuine warmth. His multilingual skills made everyone in our group feel included, and his storytelling made every stop—from the town square to the traditional medicine house—engaging and unforgettable. Romeo created an atmosphere that was both fun and meaningful, and his connection to the community added an authentic touch we truly appreciated. The traditional dancing and drumming experience was a highlight, and his guidance made it even more special. Lunch is included and truly a delicious meal. Home cooked and all We couldn’t have asked for a better guide. If you're visiting Cartagena, a tour with Romeo is a must! Highly recommend—five stars all the way! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It was a great tour and I learned much about Columbia's black history. The performances and explanations of everything was such an eye opener. Romeo our tour guide made it fun and interesting.

Great experience learning about this settlement! And how they've kept to the roots of their African ancestry. Would recommend for anyone with African heritage or those interested in learning about the struggle against slavery in Colombia

Such an amazing cultural experience! We loved it. Would easily come back again. Had the fried fish for lunch and it was delicious.
