  An over-priced and under-whelming experience. At ~ $40 per person per entry, this was not very good value for money. The "pool pass" that offers a discount online can't be used until's been activated in person(!), and then is only applicable to the single entry pass, which is the worst value-for-money entry option. As an incentive scheme, it might have value for people who frequently visit the pools for a single visit (as opposed to a same-day or two-day return visit), but has little value for travellers passing through. We were disappointed with the hours of operation. We asked the staff what time the pools closed and were told 9:00 p.m. However at 7:30 p.m. the cafe was already closed, and the back portion of the complex (lane pool, water slides, lazy river). closed just as we got there at 8:30 p.m. If we'd been told the correct info we would have visited those pools first, but instead we missed out on all that. We were also somewhat disappointed with the facilities. At shortly before closing time, the changing rooms were open but not very clean, and most of the toilets were blocked off. I understand that staff want to get home so might be tempted to start their closing duties a bit ahead of closing time, but customers should be entitled to use the facilities during all the hours of operation. The most frustrating thing was trying to bring these concerns to the attention of the company's management (and I did, so this review should not come as any surprise to them). There were a lot of excuses and nobody seemed to be in charge. They were quite happy to take our money but didn't seem to know what to do when we said we didn't get our money's worth.

• Blaring music like a cheap theme park, if you want relaxation this is not for you!

  We have been visiting the thermal pools at Hanmer NZ for over twenty years, the setting is beautiful and you can feel like you are in the forest rather than the centre of the village, or at least we used to! This recent trip we got together a group as usual, headed to Hanmer and stayed in a great rental house. We so look forward to a relaxing time, chatting and having spa treatments, BUT NOT THIS TIME. The minute you enter the complex the blasting music hits you like a tidal wave, no more relaxing in pools chatting with friends, no more relaxing facials and massages, every part of the complex is like being at a cheap theme park playing stupid music! Whoever thought this feature would be an asset to the spa wants sacking! If we wanted stupid noise we would go to a theme park. We will not be returning next year!

  We visited in a group of 5 friends and enjoyed the various pools for a whole day. The health benefits were terrific and we thoroughly enjoyed lunch at the cafe as well as all the different pools

  We stay all day, great experience, 1st time visit had lots of time to enter all the mineral pools. Was not crowded so really appreciate the experience

• Very relaxing and a couple of slides . It did not matter some pools were not in use plenty to do for half a day.

  Absolutely fantastic, felt so rejuvenated. So clean and tidy, plenty of guards on duty. Everything ran amazingly.

  We arrived in rainy weather, but it did not make the experience worse. On the contrary. The warmest pools were 42 degrees and there it was nice with drip from above. There were quite a few pools you could try. Some with waterfalls, others with nozzles so you were massaged well through. In addition to many pools there was a swimming area with “ordinary” water. It never felt like there were too many people. An area with more skates for those who want to play a little more. A simple barrel of three to 5-6 people with 3 degrees of water in. Most went down, dip and went up again. It was possible to order food and eat and take a coffee or drink in the bar area. If you are over 60 years old and book online at 22 a.m. the day before you get a nice discount. Wardrobe outside the dressing room both with lock you pay for or those there is a shelf where you can put your clothes. It did many. Free parking outside. Have fun!

  

  

  

  

• Tidy home with potential.

  It is a newish home but for the price there were some improvements that wouldn't cost a lot... adequate baking dishes to use the oven provided, a fridge large enough for a family to use, some basic cooking supplies such as cooking oil, alfoil and paper towel. Coffee pods for the provided coffee machine. We also unfortunately had a power outage for a couple of hours when we were in the midst of cooking dinner. This is certainly not the owners fault but in view of several neighbours saying this is a regular occurrence, a BBQ would certainly have made for happier hungry travellers. On a positive note it is a nice walk to town and the home is well maintained.

  Although it was rainy and chilly, the water was warm, so it was enjoyable to play with the kids. The lazy river, however, felt a bit cold. The lockers are reasonably priced, but they are on the smaller side, which is something to keep in mind. On the positive side, there seemed to be plenty of space to leave belongings outside. After 4 p.m., the wait times for the slides became very short, allowing us to ride multiple times without much waiting. One downside was that some people did not follow the rules on the slides, and the lifeguards did not actively enforce them, which was disappointing from a safety perspective. Overall, though, it was a very satisfying experience.
