Important Note regarding Maligne Canyon Waterfalls: Due to damage caused by last summer’s wildfire, access to Maligne Canyon is currently closed by Parks Canada for infrastructure repairs to ensure visitor safety. If these repairs are not completed prior to your selected tour date, the short walk to view waterfalls in Maligne Canyon will not be possible. In this case, the tour will proceed with a slightly altered itinerary, offering alternative stops to showcase the area’s unique beauty. This includes a visit to Maligne Lookout, where you can view the dramatically changed landscape from a high vantage point, and additional time at Medicine Lake, featuring a short walk along the shore for stunning perspectives of the lake surrounded by towering limestone cliffs. Please rest assured that the tour length and price remain unchanged, and the overall experience will still provide incredible opportunities to explore and learn about the Maligne Valley’s natural wonders.

What To Expect

This journey takes us through 45 kilometers of the most spectacular scenery anywhere in the Canadian Rockies. The Maligne Valley is home to a wide range of flora and fauna, and it has geological features unique in the world. Our journey takes us searching for abundant wildlife while explaining the history and natural wonders to be explored. A 30-minute stop at Maligne Canyon allows us time to explore the two bridges, offering fantastic views of the cascading waterfall and continuing erosion of the ancient limestone. As we continue into the Valley, we climb into the sub-alpine forests and view the expanding ranges of limestone rising out or Medicine Lake. A stop is made to photograph this natural wonder, and your guide traces its history with you. From Medicine Lake, we continue up through a forest that is prime habitat for moose and bears. Sightings are common but not guaranteed as we are trying to view these animals in their natural habitat. At world-famous Maligne Lake, you are led on a 2 to 3km interpretive nature walk. You take in beautiful lakeshore vistas before following the easy-grade trail loop back into the forested surrounds.

Ross was our guide and he was so knowledgeable about the land and animals. We never felt rushed. We were traveling with our 11 year old granddaughter and she said this was her favorite tour on our vacation. She learned a lot about animals and loved the bear stories!

Today we took part in the wildlife and waterfall tour of Jasper with hike around Maligne Lake – and we are absolutely thrilled! Our guide Ross was simply sensational. We have never had such a passionate and dedicated tour guide! You immediately feel his love for nature and animals as well as for his profession. He answered every question with in-depth knowledge – whether it was about wildlife such as bears or the plant world. We learned an incredible amount and had a lot of fun doing it. Ross took us to beautiful places that we certainly wouldn’t have discovered on our own, and told exciting stories about each spot. Especially the hike on Maligne Lake was a real highlight – breathtaking natural scenery that will stay with us for a long time. An all-round successful day – thank you Ross for this great experience! We can recommend the tour without restriction.

Although we could not do the waterfalls as it is still closed due to 2024 fire, had a great tour guide who was very informative about all the areas we went and gave lots of info on the burn area from the fire. Did not feel rushed at all. It was a pretty short easy hike at Maligne Lake as I did not want to have to do a real long hike or one with a lot of elevation, so I appreciated that.
