Interesting sites but very poor value “private guide” experience

2.00We were disappointed in this tour to say the least. We were looking forward to seeing and learning about the shrines and sites of Kamakura from a knowledgeable private guide. It did not seem as though our guide had done this tour before. She did not know where she was going, and had to ask locals to confirm directions. She spoke English and did tell us very small bits and pieces about the sites, but ultimately ended up giving us the English language brochure sections and either read parts of them to us, or suggested we read them ourselves. The only plus was that we did see shrines and temples that we likely would not have seen otherwise. However, our guide truly did not seem to know much about any of them. We have done private 1/2 day tours in other countries and they have been extremely informative. This was not that. Definitely not worth the price per person that you pay for this half day tour. In short, a rip off.
