Malik Ghat Flower Market

Beneath the east end of Howrah Bridge, is eastern India's largest flower market with hundreds of stalls and people sitting on the ground. Around 2,000 flower growers from the surrounding areas come to sell their flowers and garlands and during the wedding and festive season probably double that number.

Howrah Bridge

A short walk on the Howrah Bridge for a panoramic view of the Hooghly river. Howrah Bridge or Rabindra Setu (rechristened in 1965) connects Kolkata with Howrah across the river Hooghly. It was opened for traffic in 1943. Around 26500 tonnes of steel was used to make this 705m long cantilever truss bridge standing on two 83m high pillars.

I did this 1-day tour with my 8-year old child. From the initial planning stage to the conduct of the tour, we were taken good care of: Mr Suman Kumar ensured we have all logistic information before the tour. Mr Shailesh drove us well around the city, safely and responsibly. Ms Leena Sarkar was an excellent guide. She knew the city well and provided all information. This was particularly important for my child with who she was very kind, gentle and, importantly, patient.

A great opportunity to see all major landmarks throughout the city. It's a little unsettling walking through the flower and artisan markets, but an eye opening experience.

Excellent full day tour of Kolkata. Tour coordinator was was very knowledgeable about the history of Kolkata, which he shared with me throughout the tour. We first visited the Jain Temple, then the Flower Market, Victoria Memorial, the famous India Coffee House, Albert Hall. We tried some sweets and finally to Mother Theresa’s house. Excellent tour and great tour coordinator.

My daughter and I enjoyed the tour. Mr.Nag was a great guide, he was knowledgeable and informative. However in retrospect, i am disappointed that we did not get even a glimpse of the Howrah Bridge or of the famous ghats on the Hooghly River. We could have skipped the Mother Teresa refuge and greatly shortened the Jorasanko visit.

I had such amazing experience in Kolkata! Tour guide, Mr.Manab was extremely informative, very professional.He gave me full complete information about life, ppl, culture, traditions. The driver Mr.Shailesh was very helpful and attentive.Definetely recommend this tour.
