Last week we joined the Rainforest After Dark Tour with Junglewalla and absolutely loved it. Since it was just the two of us with our guides Rodhi and Danial, the whole evening felt very private and special. The tour started with a drive up Mount Raya where we tried to spot animals at dusk. We managed to see a few different monkey species and even a Great Hornbill, which was a real highlight. At the top we enjoyed an amazing view over the island and coastline while the sky turned bright red and orange with the sunset – simply stunning. Afterwards we went for a night walk through the rainforest with flashlights. We didn’t come across any snakes this time, but we did spot giant toads and even some scorpions. It was a little thrilling and very interesting at the same time. Both guides, especially Rodhi, were super friendly and shared a lot of knowledge with us in an easy and engaging way. We felt really well looked after and learned so much. All in all, a fantastic experience that we can recommend to anyone visiting Langkawi!

We went on the Langkawi Afterdark tour and it was a great experience. We climbed to the top of Gunun Raya Mountain stopping to observe different typical animals and plants with Jien’s guide who explained and told us a lot of information about the fauna and the island of Langkawi. It was great to observe with the binoculars provided all the animals that Jien spotted. I recommend to everyone Junglewalla for the professionalism and the opportunity to discover the wonders that the island of Langkawi offers!

To us, this tour was not worth its price. The first part of the tour was an approx. 2HR slow drive on a paved road during which we only spotted a couple dusky leaf monkeys and a flock of hornbills. We parked at the roadside for a good 25 minutes to stare at a tree where hornbills fly back to at dusk. It was fun at first but it soon started to feel like the driver and the guide are just waiting for the sun to set for the second part of the trip. The second part wasn't existing either. We went to a local park (a natural reserve?) and spotted a flying lemur near the parking area. We then only explored about 100 meters into the park and spent at least 15min looking at a gecko on the wall of a public toilet. The guide then led us back to the parking area and called it a day. He claimed that the wind was too strong that night so it wasn't safe for us to keep exploring with the danger of falling branches. The wind was generally only around 15-20km/hr that day. Speaking of wind, the first part of the trip was supposed to be done on an open-air jungle pick-up. But instead we were put in a normal minivan with tiny windows, taking away all the immersive experience as implied in the tour company's advertisements. The tour operator's reason was "strong wind" but we wouldn't call 15km/hr anything strong. We suspect it was because the minivan fits in more people - their open-air pick-up is designed for four adults normally but it was a group of six that day. To make things worse, our guide was less than enthusiastic and did not even give us his name - let alone any briefing about the trip or any systematic introduction of the rainforest. Overall, this experience is not worth the price we paid for, and frankly, not even worth the time we spent.

We were guided most ably and knowledgeably on this tour. Din, the driver of the minibus, had the sharpest eyes and spotted lots on the way up the mountain: serpent eagle, giant hornbill, giant black squirrel amongst others. The second part in the nature reserve was harder work for our guide, we saw a couple of snakes, heard squirrels calling and he eventually found a colugo up a tree on the edge of the carpark as we were about to leave. He was extremely knowledgeable, telling us about the medicinal uses of lots of the plants we were passing. That is the way with watching wildlife as the following evening we returned on our own to the same spot at the same time and before we left the car park we had seen a giant flying squirrel and a colugo. We then saw a flying lizard, at least 3 other colugos, another smaller flying squirrel plus an amazing large lichen coloured gecko. We also took their early morning bird tour with Sri leading and the redoubtable Din as our driver. Again they had to work quite hard due to a short, sharp shower. Sri's bird knowledge and hearing was superb, matched by Din's sharp eyesight. We managed to see 28 species of bird. I would thoroughly recommend Junglewalla tours.

From staff to finish a fantastic experience. Our guide was hugely knowledgeable and made sure to point out all interesting details. She gave us a fantastic tour. We got to see the entire island in high from the comfort of an air conditioned transport. The information given was full and answered our many questions.
