Nandaimon (Great South Gate) of Nara is the main gate of Todai-ji Temple, showcasing Japan's history and culture. Rebuilt in the 13th century, this massive wooden gate exemplifies Kamakura period architecture. Nandaimon's impressive size—about 25 meters tall and 29 meters wide—amazes visitors. The gate is guarded by two enormous Nio statues, created by famous sculptors Unkei and Kaikei, known for their detailed realism. George is an extraordinary person and guide. The tour was filled not only with historical information but also with interesting things you don’t find in history books. He was patient with the children, who were quite fussy because the temperature outside was around 39 degrees Celsius. I warmly recommend him.

We had a lovely tour with George. We learned a great deal about Nara and saw a lot in a short time period. We would not have had as good experience if we had visited Nara Park on our own and Il am very glad we booked this private tour to take us to all the top spots in Nara Park.

Thoughtful insights into the history of the park and temples from a Nara native. And 3 hours is about the right amount of time for a tour of this area - once it gives you the lay of the land, you can easily find anything else that interests you on your own.

It all comes down to the tour guide. Nara is so beautiful and has so much to see. Though when you have a terrible tour guide, it's just a waste of money. Our guide, George, was disinterested and lacked the patience to teach. He had a predetermined checklist and pace that created a chase the tour guide activity. Our family's motto for this experience and the rest of our Japan trip was, "Where's George?" For every time we turned around George was missing. While George is from the area & definitely had knowledge to share, his lack of English skills and unwillingness to wait for the group created a miserable experience. Additionally, George did not purchase deer food in advance, so we did not get to participate in the feeding, as it sold out. Nara is definitely a place to visit, though wouldn't recommend this tour company. We will be requesting a refund.

Great tour of Nara for the family! We had two young boys 5 & 8 and they loved the it. The deer the temples and history, George was our guide and he was very kind and knowledgeable.
