Kinkakuji Temple
Kinkakuji Temple is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan. Kinkakuji is famous for its stunning architecture, with the top two floors covered in gold leaf and beautifully reflected in the surrounding pond. Originally built in the 14th century as a retreat for Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, the temple was later converted into a temple. The gardens surrounding the temple were also carefully designed in detail to showcase the beauty of the traditional Japanese landscape. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular tourist attraction.
Arashiyama
Arashiyama is a pleasant, natural tourist destination located in the western suburbs of Kyoto. The area has been a popular tourist destination since the Heian period (794-1185), when aristocrats enjoyed its natural surroundings. Arashiyama is especially popular in the fall for its autumn foliage and in the spring for its cherry blossoms. The Togetsu Bridge is the central trend mark of Arashiyama, from which you can enjoy a panoramic view of the vast river. Near the bridge, there is a boat pier, the famous bamboo grove street, many restaurants, and shopping for even the youngest visitors.

We were collected from and returned to the Cruise Terminal in Osaka., driven to Kyoto in a clean Prius. Riku is the guide. We asked to see as much as possible including bamboo forest, shrine, Kinkaku ji, Gion, and Nijo Castle (did a driveby of the castle as it was late). Had a lovely sushi/tempura lunch. Riku was polite and comminicated well.

My daughter and I spent the day with our guide Tatsuya. His English is very good and we were able to easily communicate with him. He loves his job and interacting with people. His car was clean and he had cold water for each of us. We went to some of the famous tourist sites and one of the best things he recommended was to take a rickshaw at Arashiyama. We chose 60 minutes, but now that I've done it, I would have taken a longer one. These places are packed with tourists and you have to do a lot of walking, but our rickshaw took us around where we could just sit back and relax, sometimes to places that tourists couldn't enter and we got some amazing photos. The day goes by really fast, but it was a good adventure.

Wow! What a day with Riku. Amazing guide! Riku was extremely knowledgeable and great tour guide. He toured us around Kinkaku Ji Temple. Explained the detailed history of the site with great authenticity. From there we went to Arashiyama to see the amazing bamboo forest! Nijo Castle was next and it did not disappoint. Riku dropped us off at the front so we could get our tickets before closing time. All in all it could not have been a better day. Well worth the time and money. I will recommend Riku to our family and friends for years to come!
