Txikiteo: The first rule of the txikiteo club is: there are no rules. An approximate definition of ‘txikiteo’ could be: going from bar to bar, eating a pintxo and drinking a glass of something (the usual is a low-alcohol beverage, not cocktails!) in each. The txikiteo is done standing up, in front of the bar full of pintxos and surrounded by people you don't know (but that you could end up meeting.) And this is precisely what you’ll do with Ikusnahi: pure txikiteo, flying from bar to bar, tasting the most renowned specialty of each in a genuinely Basque environment and surrounded by locals that, y’know, you don't know...but that you could end up meeting.
Pintxo: A piece of miniature cuisine that started off as something simple (a portion of potato omelette, a slice of ham on bread...) and that the bars of the Basque Country improved upon over time, making it more complex in order to attract more customers. The story is exciting and there are as many versions as there are historians. On our tour you’ll get to know some of them, as well as many other curiosities about the cult of the stomach that exists in the Basque Country. Drinking: This is the other great religion (along with Eating) in the Basque Country. Wine and cider have been favorite drinks of the Basque people for the last five centuries, although beer has been prevailing in recent years. Did you know that in the 16th century, Basque sailors hardly suffered scurvy on long sea voyages, thanks to the cider they drank?

We had a lovely afternoon with Martin enjoying the local cuisine and learning about beautiful San Sebastián. We decided to do a private tour so we could go at our own pace. Martin was very accommodating and very knowledgeable about Spain, food and wine and especially the Basque cuisine and culture - answering all our questions.

So many good things to say. We were able to book online last minute. We had less than 24 hours. We booked a 5 wine/5 Pintxos tour with a private guide. The response was very quick. We learned later that the tour company usually doesn’t do tours on Sundays, but arrange one just for us. Our guide, Mattin, was knowledgeable and went to a great deal of efforts to customize the experience for us. We saw and learned things that we wouldn’t have discovered any other way. And he was just fun to spend time with. Highly, highly recommend.

We got the inside scoop on Ikusnahi tours and they totally delivered! Our guide Martin was a local legend, with a deep passion for Basque culture and history that was infectious. He took us on a pintxo-tasting adventure, hitting up 5 of the best bars in town and sharing his expert knowledge on the best bites and drinks to try. With Martin, it felt like we had a friend showing us the ropes, not just a guide. He was warm, witty, and made the whole experience feel like a day out with a buddy. If you're looking for an authentic taste of Basque life, Ikusnahi tours are a must

We had an incredible experience touring San Sebastián, thanks to our amazing guide. She not only showed us the must-see sights but also gave us the history and local stories. We were also introduced to some great Pintos - that helped guide us for the rest of our stay. Highly recommend this tour.

We had a pintxo food tour in San Sebastian. The food was really very good and interesting. Definitely a great experience. Our guide Cristina Guia was very pleasant and helpful. She is very knowledgeable with her craft. She was generous with extra information about other points of interest around Spain and neighboring towns. We were very happy with the tour and our guide. It’s worth trying their tours.

I would give this tour 10 stars if I could! We spent an amazing 3 hours with Martin on the pinxtos San Sebastián tour. Martin is a local who was born and raised in San Sebastián and has a passion for sharing his city. His English is perfect and he delivers the perfect balance of food, culture, history and fun. Martin also gave many recommendations for the remainder of our time in his city. If you have the chance to book with Martin, just do it!

My husband and I enjoyed the half day tour. Not only we had delicious food but also learned a lot of the Basque culture. Our tour guide Jan took us to the Pinxtos bars in the old town area as well as the more local area like Gros. He was able to choose the best dish in each bar and tell us the stories behind it. Jan also explains to us about the Basque history and culture which we are very interested into. It’s great to hear the “insider” stories. He even worked over time in order to show us more places and also sent us more restaurant and shopping info that we can explore on our own after the tour. Jan is really helpful and interesting to hang out with and we had a great time.
