  OMFG what an absolute blast this day was, its a massive day from Cuzco but sooooooo exciting and way better than huffing and puffing your way up (for me anyway 🤷‍♀️☺️)

  We went on the tour at 3:30. Good coffee, good lunch, the quadricycle part was very cool. transport van is reasonable. It was a little frustrating because it had snowed a lot the previous night so the mountain had only one color: white. But we were warned of the possibility and suggested we switch the ride to 8:30. So are worth the 5 stars

  Excellent tour! I would highly recommend if you want to see/explore rainbow mountain without doing the strenuous hike! The use of the ATV and the motorbikes were a blessing! They are totally safe. The guides were helpful, patient, professional and friendly! You can operate the ATV on your own or ride with a friend or one of the guides! The motorbike are driven by professionals. We were picked up from our hotel in a timely manner. The guide explained the itinerary. We stopped for breakfast and lunch which was included. The food was satisfactory. The guides took photos for everyone at Rainbow mountain. You had sufficient time to explore. Be advised that to use the restroom at the location where you get your ATV's cost two Solis. At Rainbow mountain the cost to use the restroom is 2 solis. You need to have Solis currency with you at Rainbow mountain as the natives will only accept that currency as payment. The guide explained to us that it's very difficult for the natives to exchange foreign currency as they would have to go to Cusco to do so.

  I was very confident that day and booked the tour spontaneously due to my day off in Cusco. Since Cusco is already at 3,400 m and the Rainbow Mountains at over 5,200 m, I noticed that I react strongly to the altitude. Looking back, I should have either taken an extra day to acclimatize or taken an oxygen bottle with me. The tea offered (coca or similar) works in the short term, but can be problematic in drug tests. It's better to get something meaningful in a local pharmacy. The meeting point was at Plaza Regocijo, just minutes from my hotel – very convenient. Around 8:30 we started with a minibus, about 10 people, towards Rainbow Mountain. The roads are winding and unpaved, which caused me some nausea on the way out. Once at base camp, we got our ATVs with helmets and a brief briefing. We drove in chain, basically only in first gear, about 10–14 km. My first ATV had problems on inclines, so I got a working one from the guide. Overall, the driving was slow, almost at walking pace – ideal as I would not have made the route on foot. Once at the top, there were two options: Either to climb an opposite hill to take a nice picture from above, or to stay on the same level at the foot of the mountains. The hill was doable, though exhausting. Luckily we were almost alone, so we could take great photos without other tourists. However, those who imagine the intense colors of the images should remain realistic: The rainbow colors consist of superimposed minerals that have been pressed into this position by plate tectonics over millions of years. Reddish tones originate from iron oxide, pink from oxidized manganese, yellow from sulphur compounds, cyan from copper, water and oxygen. Black stripes are formed by granite deposits. After photos and impressions we went back to base camp and then back to Cusco. Conclusion: Know your limits and plan the tour to avoid nausea, headaches and altitude problems as much as possible. Ideally, the tour should take place on a day with good weather forecast, otherwise the view may be limited. Otherwise, the ATV is the perfect choice, as a walk is hardly possible. The view is impressive not only of the Rainbow Mountains, but of the entire surroundings with the majestic mountains, some over 6,000 m high.

  If there’s any chance of low temperatures or rain - take a wind proof jacket and gloves! And a snack ‘cos it’s a relatively long minibus ride getting there.

  Great guides. Fun side trip on ATVs. A great way to get to the top of a 5000m mountain without having to hike uphill at that altitude.

  Great panoramic views of the mountains. It was good to have the option to self-drive the ATV or getting an experienced driver, so that you feel safe. There was a bit of confusion stopping for lunch at 10.30 am - 2 hrs from departure, after we were told to make sure we had breakfast before leaving. We got a snacks bag upon return, which was good.

  I recently did the Rainbow Mountain ATV tour, and it was absolutely incredible! From start to finish, everything was well organized and full of fun. Our guides, Arturo and Yadira, made the experience even better — they were professional, friendly, and full of energy. The ATV ride through the Andes was breathtaking, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, colorful valleys, and stunning views all along the route. Arturo and Yadira made sure everyone felt safe and confident on the ATVs, as well as saved me multiple times from altitude sickness. What really stood out to me was how caring and thoughtful they both were. My boyfriend accidentally left his jacket behind at a restaurant after the tour, and Arturo went out of his way to retrieve it the next day — he even managed to get it back to us just in time for our next tour! That level of kindness and dedication truly went above and beyond. When we reached the top of Rainbow Mountain, Yadira and Arturo helped us capture incredible photos and made sure everyone had time to enjoy the view. The combination of adventure, scenery, and their genuine hospitality made this experience one of the highlights of our trip. If you’re visiting Cusco and want to experience Rainbow Mountain in a fun and memorable way, I can’t recommend the ATV tour with Arturo and Yadira!
