We begin at the Monumento de los Presentes, where we'll introduce the tour by discussing how the city and its culture have endured through many changes. The monument itself personifies the typical inhabitants of the city, who are at risk of disappearing due to modernization. These figures stand firm, serious, and represent a silent rebellion against the sweeping changes around them, symbolizing resilience and the preservation of identity in the face of transformation.

Tour was a great way to experience San Jose. We went to a ton of the main tourist spots. Tour guide was very informative and shared great historical facts. We tried small bites of fresh fruit, tamal, and some sorbet in the 2 markets. We visited the cathedral and the theater lobby (tour not included). We ended the tour with a small meal - 1 full pork tamale w escabeche (so delicious!) and made our own pure plantain empanada filled with parmesan cheese and sugar. We had a agua de sopa drink and coffee at the end. The only 2 things were 1) we got left behind at the church and missed seeing the theater lobby. We were able to catch up by checking the itinerary and routing to the next location and finding the group leaving the theater. The company was quick to respond with where to meet via WhatsApp and the tour guide was very apologetic for forgetting about us so it wasnt that big of a deal. Second i think the group got combined with another time slot, so it was not the designated 12 maximum, but rather ~15 people total but didn’t feel too crowded

At the start, the guides spent a lot of time assessing food allergies and issues. He was very focused on making sure everyone was ok with pork. Then he called in the numbers and said pork to the cafe. Yet the cafe only had 2 tamales with pork. All the others were nothing but rice! Rice inside corn masa. Even if I could eat rice and corn, it looked like a gloppy gut-bomb. Very unhealthy for anyone to eat corn filled with rice. There wasn’t a single thing I could eat at lunch. Without any pork, it didn’t make the price seem worth a plate of mushy corn and rice. And it still feels strange how so much time was spent on getting food orders, and calling in the food order, when the order was completely ignored. I also expected at least 3 tastes in the market. There were only 2 taste stops.

Our guide was excellent. The walk through the fruit/vegetable market was interesting. And I loved tasting all of the different fruits. I especially liked the guides attention to hygiene, making us wash our hands! The foods at the Sloth Coffee House great.

My mom and I enjoyed this tour. It was at a good pace and we tasted several good things. It was nice to stop and have time to try the food instead of trying to eat on the go like some tours have you do. Good value for money given the length and number of things we tried. I had originally booked a spot via Airbnb and didn't hear back from the host when I wanted to add an additional spot, but I was able to book the same tour here and we sorted it out.

Very educational, a good mix of learning about San Jose history and learning about the various Costa Rica foods. Andrea was very friendly and she did an excellent job answering everyone’s questions throughout the tour.
