Those taking the overnight train to Lao Cai can expect a total journey of 8.5–9.5 hours, including the final 1-hour shuttle ride to Sapa town.
Y Linh Ho
Begin your Sapa adventure with a scenic journey from Hanoi to the breathtaking mountains of northern Vietnam. After arriving in Sapa, embark on a guided trek through some of the region’s most iconic landscapes. Your adventure starts in Y Linh Ho, a peaceful valley known for its dramatic hillsides and sweeping views of stepped rice terraces. As you walk along mountain paths, your guide will introduce you to the Black Hmong culture, their traditional clothing, and their daily life in the highlands.
Lao Chai Trail
Continue trekking to Lao Chải Village, where terraced fields cascade down the slopes like emerald stairways. This area offers some of the most photogenic scenery in Sapa, with panoramic viewpoints overlooking the vast Muong Hoa Valley. Meet local families, learn how rice is cultivated on the mountain terraces, and discover the unique traditions that shape their way of life.
Ta Van Village
Your journey concludes at Tả Van Village, home to the friendly Zay ethnic minority. Here, you’ll settle into a warm and welcoming homestay surrounded by rice paddies and misty mountains. Enjoy a freshly prepared dinner and experience authentic village hospitality—an unforgettable cultural highlight of your Sapa trek.
You’ll return to Sapa town for a comfortable overnight stay.
Giang Ta Chai Village
After a hearty breakfast at your homestay in Tả Van Village, set out on a guided trek through the serene bamboo forests and winding trails of Giang Tả Chải (2–3 hours trekking). This village is home to the Red Dao people, known for their intricate embroidery and distinctive red headscarves. Along the way, admire cascading rice terraces and crystal-clear streams, stopping at Sài Hồ Waterfall to take in the natural beauty of the highlands.
Sapa Lake
Sài Hồ is a picturesque waterfall nestled in the lush mountains near Sapa, along the trekking route from Tả Van to Giang Tả Chải. The gentle roar of the falling water and the cool mountain air create a tranquil setting, allowing travelers to relax and connect with nature. During your trek, Sài Hồ serves as both a scenic highlight and a cultural waypoint, as nearby villages provide insight into the traditional lifestyles of the Red Dao and other ethnic communities. It’s an ideal place to pause, enjoy the views, and experience the peaceful rhythm of rural Sapa life.

The Sapa homestay trekking tour was fantastic! Sue, the guide, was amiable and gave a thorough explanation of the local way of life in the villages. The host, who was very amiable, made a meal, and the homestay was fantastic. We still highly recommend it and plan to visit again next year.

I had the impression that I had entered a picture. You wouldn't believe how beautiful the valley is. developed a great deal of respect for the H Mong ethnic hamlet residents who work as farmers for a portion of the year. subsequently turning their house into a guest house or selling crafts to make ends meet as best they can. I had never walked with a native before thanks to Wing, my guide.

I had a great time hiking around the village of sapa for two days with my favorite tour guide, Wing. We traveled through stunning valleys, Tiananmen, bamboo woods, and charming little villages while Nhu taught me to all the customs and lifestyles of the Shimans. Delicious regional cuisine and enough blankets to withstand the chilly sauna nights are prepared by the host families. I'll go hiking again in the summer to take in the vistas of the rice fields.

The weather was unclear and foggy, but we had a nice time with our guide. He guided us throughout the trek and explained everything about their culture and tradition. We also performed their traditional dance, which was mesmerizing—a highly recommended trek for new travelers in Vietnam.

In the morning, we met Quin in Sapa and started walking with her to nearby villages. She told us a lot about the area, her life, and how locals live. Quin speaks English well, and she also knows her village's language. We walked through beautiful places like rice fields, streams, and rocky paths. Then, she invited us to her home. You can choose to eat at a restaurant or her home, and I suggest eating at her home. If you want, you can help make the meal by picking water spinach and rolling spring rolls. Then, enjoy a tasty lunch. The meal had local rice, meats like chicken, pork, and water buffalo, plus beans, spring rolls, and spinach.
