This is a must-try chance to walk on one of Iceland's remarkable glaciers and feel the ice crunch under your crampons! In a small group with one of our passionate, certified glacier guides, you’ll not only walk on the glacier itself, but also see how it’s changing up close – from deep crevasses and ice walls to moulins and a glacier lagoon filled with icebergs. We provide all the technical gear, keep the pace beginner-friendly, and pack the tour with information, scenery and photo stops, so you step off the ice with great memories and a real connection to Iceland’s glacier world.

Suitable for all physical fitness levels
Minimum age of 8, and minimum shoe size of EUR 35
Sturdy hiking boots with ankle support are mandatory (available to rent for a fee if needed)
The tour is rated as easy - no prior experience is needed but guests must be able to walk ~3km over uneven terrain
Please note that our specialized glacier crampons are only available for shoe sizes 35-50 EU. Those with a shoe size beyond these are unfortunately unable to participate.

This unforgetable glacier experience is a beginner-friendly glacier hike on Sólheimajökull, a stunning outlet of Mýrdalsjökull on Iceland’s South Coast. In a small group, you’ll meet your certified glacier guide at the parking lot, gear up with crampons, an ice axe, and helmet, and walk across a dramatic landscape to the glacier, passing a beautiful lagoon dotted with floating icebergs. Then you’ll step onto real glacier ice for about 1.5 hours of easy hiking, weaving between ice ridges, crevasses and shimmering blue formations. Along the way, your guide will share stories about climate, history, and the area, with plenty of time for photos and taking in the views. It’s a fun, safe and unforgettable way to experience Iceland’s ice world - perfect for couples, families and solo travelers, with no previous glacier experience required.

5.00A mazing experience! The guide was excellent , very knowledgeable, explained everything clearly, showed us so much, and taught us a lot along the way. If someone didn’t have proper footwear, it was possible to rent it on the spot, which was very convenient. Everything was well organized and truly impressive. Highly recommended; this is something you should experience at least once in your lifetime.

5.00We did the trip has a family, with 2 kids, 12 and 15, and it was memorable. The guide has super nice, always attentive and concerned with the group. A lot of explanations of what we were doing and seeing. It was amazing. Thank you all for that.

5.00The tour with Josh was great! There were only three of us on the tour, which was very pleasant. Josh is an expert on Glacier (has studied it) and he has an enormous knowledge. When we return to Island, we will again book a tour with arctic adventure.

5.00We were staying in the south coast and wanted to build in a memorable adventure on the glacier that was active but not extreme. This hike was perfect for us. The person managing the hike, Neil from Catalonia, was great. He kept everyone moving, upbeat and safe. It may be useful for others to know that we were unsure which company to book and went with Arctic Adventures due to availability of the time slot we wanted. (10:30 instead of 9:30 which made a difference due to the late sunrise.) Whilst it was first cancelled due to weather, this wasn’t their fault and we were offered a refund or option to rebook. It was very easy to arrange the following day when the winds slowed down. Everything on the hike day went smoothly and was very well organised. Keep in mind it’s a bit of effort and you only spend maybe an hour or so on the ice itself, but it’s the only way to properly see the glacier. Our group was a pleasant size of 10 total. Some of the other operators had very large groups that arrived by coach and looked unpleasant.

5.00Jan was absolutely AMAZING! He kept us safe, very informative. He was also a great photographer! Highly recommend! The hiking on ice part was honestly more fun than the cave itself. Dress in layers because it gets hot!

5.00Such a fun experience. Our tour guide, Mickell, was wonderful. He took the time to ensure we all were familiar with the equipment. He provided great information about the glacier, how they are formed, what happens when they recede, melt, etc. and a general overview of glacier hiking. He hiked at a very good pace for everyone in the group and took plenty of breaks. He was charming and knowledgeable. Highly, highly recommend this adventure.
