Enjoy a decadent pre-performance dinner or a few drinks overlooking Sydney Harbour before you take your seats for the performance. The Opera Gala is a night of music and laughs designed to get you in the party spirit.

After the show, make your evening even more special with tickets to our exclusive Midnight Party. Held in the Northern Foyers of the Opera House, this event includes drinks, canapés and entertainment — and of course, a great vantage point for Sydney’s famous New Year’s Eve fireworks.

There’s nowhere in the world like Sydney on New Year’s Eve, and there’s nowhere closer to the action than the Sydney Opera House.

If you don’t have tickets to the Midnight Party, there are a limited number of outdoor viewing areas you’ll be able to access following the performance. Please note that these spaces are limited and can’t be guaranteed.

This being our first time in Sydney on New Years Eve we decide to attend the Sydney Opera House New Years Eve Gala event, we were not disappointed at all. We arrived and were greeted with drinks we had time to relax on the balcony and take in the atmosphere before taking our seats for our wonderful three course dinner. They catered for my Gluten Free requirements perfectly. The Opera Show was held in two parts, part one before the Fireworks at 9pm and part after. What an excellent show - thank you very much to all involved. Robbie Williams performed his set prior to midnight and being on the balcony above the show you felt very much part of it. The midnight fireworks were incredible and breathtaking, telling people back home in the UK that simply seeing them on the remotely do not do them justice. There was a live band after the midnight fireworks which were very good as well. Should we ever be in Sydney for New Years again, we would most definitely do this event int he future and would highly recommend.

The concert was excellent, and the voices were amazing. I especially enjoyed tenor Diego Torres. The show was beautiful, and the music was fantastic. The audience clearly loved Bernstein, as most of the program featured his works. Unfortunately, the organization left much to be desired. We stayed in the city center, not far from the Sydney Opera House, and allowed ourselves plenty of time to walk there since public transport wasn’t running on the afternoon of the 31st. Taking a taxi wasn’t an option either, as all the roads were closed. Sadly, there were no clear directions on how to find the entrance. We had to wander around as most entrances appeared to be closed—it was very confusing. When we finally found the entrance, there was a massive queue to get in, and it took us at least another 20 minutes to enter. By the time we got inside, there was no time to buy drinks as we had to rush to find our seats. The show included an interval at 9 pm for the first fireworks display, and it finished at 11 pm. Afterward, they began serving snacks and small canapés. Unfortunately, there were no vegetarian options at all. On the bright side, there was plenty of alcohol available, so that wasn’t an issue.

This is probably Sydney’s best kept secret and it’s perfect for residents and tourists alike. Just a quick rundown of how the gala works: A number of upbeat favourites are performed, some purely symphony and others featuring very talented singers. The gala is in two parts with one long intermission. This is designed for the attendees to see the “family fireworks” at 9:30. Everyone returns to a very enthusiastic performance that I guarantee you will never see performed at the Opera House any other time of the year. Short of midnight, the performance concludes and people are let out onto the raised area outside the Opera House blocked off to the general public with one of the best views of the fireworks; and at midnight, the fireworks in all their glory, ring in the new year.

If you get the opportunity to visit the Sydney Opera House, take it. It is a great experience and every seat is a good one.

It was brilliant and a memory that we will cherish. The whole event was so well organised from beginning to end. The music and the singers were spectacular and could not believe how quickly the evening went. Then to finish off with the tremedous firework display which we enjoyed from the top terrace.
