5.00Eugene was an amazing guide with so many nuggets of information about Tampa and the surrounding areas. My teenagers (16 & 17) even loved it. Great local foods to try and some wonderful history too!!!

5.00My husband and I love to do food tours when visiting new cities. Secret Food Tours recently added a walking food tour in Tampa so we took advantage of it while we were there. The tour focused on the Ybor City district of Tampa, which as we learned has a rich cultural history influenced by migration from Cuba and the Mediterranean region of Europe. Ybor City is being revived by development, yet seems to be maintaining much of its original character. Lawrence Eugene, who was well versed in the history of the area, was our tour guide. We started at a restaurant for alligator tacos, then to a Greek restaurant for a lemon, chicken, rice soup. Our third stop was to a funky bar/restaurant for a deviled crabcake, and then for a Cuban sandwich. We finished off the tour with a dip of ice cream at May Day’s. In between stops, Eugene took us to see cigars being freshly wrapped, pointed out historical buildings and their significance, and described the folklore about the pirate, Jose Gaspar and his connection to the current Gasparilla parade. Overall, we had a wonderful time!! The only thing missing was a visit to the La Segunda bakery where the Cuban sandwich roll is created. Maybe next time!

5.00We totally enjoyed this food tour. Ybor City is an excellent backdrop for this kind of tour, with its variety of cultures and cuisines. The crab cakes and Cuban sandwiches were outstanding. Our tour guide was well-versed in the history of the area. Lots of fun!

5.00What a fantastic experience we had with Eugene and Secret Food Tours! First of all, as an unashamed tourist and a lover of history, Secret Food Tours does such an excellent job of creating an experience where history comes alive through a very human, shared experience - FOOD! Did you know the impact of the Spanish-American War on Tampa? Can you name the invention that directly resulted in the 20th Century population bomb in Florida? Want to hear the comeback story of the Seminole Tribe in Florida? Time to book your tour! Ask for Eugene for your tour guide. He was knowledgeable, kind, and did a great job of giving us a real feel for Ybor and Tampa Bay at large. Highly recommend.

5.00A great introduction to Ybor City and the variety of food that represented the mix of cultures. Our guide Eugene gave us an overview of the history of the area and the founding families of Ybor City. There were only 2 of us on the tour so it was very personalized. We stopped for alligator tacos, a Cuban sandwich, Greek chicken soup, deviled blue crab cakes, and ice cream! The Cuban at The Columbia was my favorite stop, but the alligator tacos and soup were great too. The crab cakes were my least favorite, I think they needed some sort of sauce. I really enjoyed the tour, parking was easy at the lot across the street from the museum (it was Sunday).
