Burana Tower
Burana Tower is an ancient minaret from the 11th century, preserved from the city of Balasagun, the capital of the Karakhanid state. It is located in the Chuy Valley, about 80 km from Bishkek, near the town of Tokmok. Originally the tower was about 45 meters high, but after earthquakes only 21 meters remain. Built of burnt brick, it is one of the oldest minarets in Central Asia and an important monument of the Great Silk Road. Today, the tower is part of an archaeological and architectural museum complex and is protected as cultural heritage of Kyrgyzstan.
