Medina of Kairouan
Founded in 670, Kairouan flourished under the Aghlabid dynasty in the 9th century. Despite the transfer of the political capital to Tunis in the 12th century, Kairouan remained the Maghreb's principal holy city. Its rich architectural heritage includes the Great Mosque, with its marble and porphyry columns, and the 9th-century Mosque of the Three Gates has allowed the city to inscribed in the world heritage list UNESCO. We will spend there 2 hours walking around Kairouan's old Medina, admiring The great mosque, Zawiya of Sidi Sahâb and The three-door mosque. The tour into Kairouan will be finished by tasting traditional Tunisian lunch into the recommended El Brija Tourist Restaurant.
The Great Mosque of Kairouan
It is undoubtedly the oldest Islamic religious building erected in the Muslim West. It was in 670, during the first campaign for the annexation of Ifriqiya to the nascent Muslim Empire. After having chosen, at the edge of the mountainous foothills of the north of the country, the location of the "cantonment" - al qayrawân - in which he installed his troops in the wake of a first victorious offensive, General Okba Ibn Nafaa hastened to erect there a seat for the government of the Ifriqiya province and oratory in mud bricks which, in the ninth century, after several rearrangements and with a few details, will appear as we know today at the Great Mosque. A singular monument, that this Great Mosque of Kairouan, whose perfect harmony perfectly hides an architectural "syncretism" unique in its kind. The materials which were used for its construction all come, indeed, from ancient sites belonging to various times before the Islamic conquest, while the general appearance of the building, in particular, the minaret, reflects a distant oriental influence. The whole forms an original whole, with sober features but not devoid of elegance. As for interior decoration, we must speak of exuberance: a real explosion of geometric and floral patterns carved in fine marble that decorates the facade of the mihrâb, the niche that indicates the direction of Mecca, or engraved in the panels of precious woods that make up the minbar, pulpit for preaching.
Eden Palm is an innovative concept whose mission is to offer visitors to the Tozeur region a unique experience: the authentic and intelligent discovery of the world of the date palm and the date, respectively, the emblematic tree and fruit of Tunisia. Visit of the permanent exhibition Discovery of the palm grove. Tasting of gastronomic products made from dates or palm trees

Chebika
Chebika is close to the town of Tamerza, in the Djerid region of southwest Tunisia. It lies just a couple of miles from the border with Algeria. surrounded by dry and arid desert , just north of the salt lakes or Chotts. . These oasis towns are dramatic with its rugged rocks and steep-sided ravines exposed to the sun that is known as Qasr el-Shams, which means Castle of the Sun. It was once a Roman outpost, called ‘Ad Speculum’, a mountain refuge of the Berber people. Despite its remote desert location, Chebika still receives plenty of tourists to see the impressive collection of rock formations, waterfalls, and steep narrow gorge. The scenery is quite impressive with many jagged pink-colored rock formations. The palm trees in the ravine thrive where their roots have found a water source. A footpath leads down to a pool of azure water with an attractive waterfall that cascades down to a small stream. The gorge was originally formed by a source of water that carved these amazing canyons
Chott El Jerid
Chott El Jerid represents a lake of great extent in the wet period, of an exceptional natural beauty unique in its kind. This site is a testimony to life, to ongoing geological processes in the development of landforms, or to geomorphological or physiographic features of great significance; The surrounding regions of Chott el Jerid contain prehistoric sites in the Kebili region (snail beds of Capsian age (8,000 years) or Neolithic (5,000 years). Chott experienced 100,000 years ago, wetter periods, during which it was transformed into a permanent lake, thanks mainly to the springs. In places, the bottom of the lake was covered by a section of water 25 m deep. Traces of aquatic life have been discovered on the current borders of the chotts, in the form of shells in the fossil state, dominated by Cadmium. The ecological analysis shows a spectacular richness. The presence of populations from the Mediterranean of waterbirds has earned the site to be classified as an Important Bird Area.
Sahara Desert
The camel ride in Douz is one of the activities most requested by visitors. This walk allows you to cross the sand dunes that stretch as far as the eye can see, to admire the sunset in the desert in a caravan. Camels are majestic animals, known to be very intelligent, patient, and endowed with a good memory, but also stubborn and grumpy. The dromedaries move slowly but confidently and are very high on their legs, which is very pleasant during walks. Enjoy a camel ride with nomads to experience what the people of the desert have been living for millennia. An unforgettable ride for adults and children. A true Saharan experience!
*Experience the Tamerza Canyon* Uncover the hidden beauty of Tamerza Canyon, a stunning natural wonder in the heart of Tunisia. Nestled within the breathtaking desert landscape of southwest Tunisia, this remarkable canyon promises an unforgettable adventure. Immerse yourself in its awe-inspiring geological formations and the enchanting allure of the desert, making every moment a captivating experience you won't want to miss.

Casas Trogloditas de Matmata
Troglodytes berber houses underground in Matmata
Tamezret is a beautiful Berber village where there are only around 800 inhabitants. Nothing to do with the troglodyte villages of the region. The dry stone houses cling to the hill and blend in with nature, giving the appearance of a small medieval town. It is one of the oldest villages in the region you will be introduced to the inhabitants during a guided visit of the village.
Amphitheatre D'el Jem
The amphitheater of El Jem is an exceptional testimony to Roman architecture, particularly that of monuments built for show purposes, in Africa. Located in a plain in the center of Tunisia, this amphitheater, built entirely of cut stone, is neither dug nor leaned against a hill. In this, it takes up the model of the Colosseum in Rome without however being a simple exact copy of the Flavian building.

We took a private three-day tour with driver Ameur and guide Mohamed. We had a great time with both, despite a misunderstanding about the activities included then resolved; the guide showed us places not included in the program and very nice. We recommend taking this tour accompanied because the people who accompany you give added value to the experience.

Truly one of the highlights of our trip to Tunisia. Mohamed shared a lot of interesting anecdotes about the regions we travelled through and he is truly knowledgeable on a wide range of topics! The canyon and waterfall were truly special. Our first experience of the Sahara was breathtaking - what more can we say but recommend that you include this trip in your itinerary.
