This budget group tour will show you the downtown and uptown scenery of Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet Autonomous Region. You will understand it more deeply by visiting those famous tourist spots, such as the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, etc. Then will go to Shigatse, another mighty city in Tibet, where you can pay a visit to Tashilhunpo Monastery, one of the top four Gelug Monastery, to experience the different Tibetan Buddhism and culture.

Tibet Tourism Bureau Permit (TTB) usually takes about 12-working-day to apply. If you couldn’t provide the required docs & info on time, an extra abt USD 50~80/permit will be charged;
We reserve the right to change the itinerary order and attractions in Lhasa;
If you prefer to book your own hotels over those included in our group tour, please meet the rest of the group at their daily hotel on time. We don’t include the transfers to your own hotels;
We need to pick up and drop off all members of the group on first & last day from Lhasa Airport/Railway, thus there may not always have guide presence but driver;
Due to the special nature of Tibet travel, any unforeseeable and unavoidable objective circumstances, including but not limited to natural disasters, war, terrorism, riot, civil commotion, strikes, public health emergencies, government action, major traffic jams, delay or cancellation of flight/train, attractions temporarily closed. etc., resulting in a change of itinerary, the increased cost will be paid by travelers; if any attraction visits have to be canceled due to the same reasons above, we won't be held responsible for a refund except certain attraction entrance fee which will be solely decided by us.
Single Supplement: our quote is based on twin rooms. For single travelers, single supplement is required at the time of booking. If later we manage to match you with another traveler to share the twin rooms, the single supplement will be refunded.

We will pick you up at Lhasa airport/railway station and transfer you to the hotel. It takes about 90 minutes from the airport to the hotel and 20 minutes from the train station to the hotel. After arriving at the hotel, you are advised to take a rest to get used to the high altitude. You can stroll around the hotel, but do not tire yourself out.

Drepung Monastery (Zhebang Si)
Our guide and driver will pick you up at the hotel in the early morning and then drive to Drepung Monastery, meaning Rice Heap Monastery in Tibetan. The whole monastery is large in scale and the white buildings cluster and cover the hillsides. Drepung Monastery is known as Gelugpa's most important monastery in Tibetan Buddhism.
Tibet Museum
In the afternoon you will first visit the Tibet Museum. Here you can see life scenes, exquisite clothing, house architecture, and festival customs, etc. to explore the special and mysterious Tibetan customs.
Norbulingka (Precious Stone Garden)
You will visit Norbulingka, which is a typical Tibetan-style royal garden, the summer resort of the Dalai Lama.

Potala Palace
Today, you will visit the most famous Potala Palace, which is the cardinal landmark of Tibet and the masterpiece of Tibetan architecture. Potala Palace was the winter palace of successive Dalai Lama. It was built by Tibet's 33rd great king, Songtsen Gangpo, in the 7th century. The most valuable collections of Potala Palace are the gilded burial stupas of the former Dalai Lamas and the meditation cave of Tibet's 33rd great king.
Jokhang Temple
At noon, the tour guide will take you to a good restaurant for lunch and rest. In the afternoon, we will visit Jokhang Temple in the center of Lhasa old town. Jokhang Temple is Tibet's most sacred temple and has always been bustling with earnest local pilgrims since the early days.
Barkhor Street
After visiting Jokhang Temple, you will take a walk around Barkhor Street – one of the most devotional circuits as well as a crowded central market of Lhasa. Barkhor Street is a very old round street around the Jokhang Temple and the locals are always proud of it. As a symbol of Lhasa, it is also a must-see place for visitors.

Yamdrok Yumtso Lake
We will pass Gampala Pass (4790m) on the way from Lhasa to Shigatse and visit Yamdrok Lake, one of the three largest sacred lakes in Tibet. You can see its turquoise color and snow-capped Mount Nyenchen Khangsar in the distance.
Karo La Glacier
Later we will pass and enjoy the Karola Glacier, which looks spectacular from the highway, and it is close enough (about 300 yards) from the highway.
Then visit the main monastery in Gyantse – Pelkor Chode Monastery, famous for its exquisite architecture and intact murals and statues.

Tashilunpo Monastery
In the morning, we will visit Panchen Lama's home – Tashilunpo Monastery, which was founded by the 1st Dalai Lama in 1447. It is a historic and culturally important monastery in Shigatse. It is located on the central hill of the city. The monastery's full name in Tibetan means "all fortune and happiness gathered here" or "heap of glory". For the trip back to Lhasa in the late afternoon, we will provide you with two solutions that will be decided by Great Tibet Tour. Option A: Drive from Shigatse – Lhasa; Option B: Train from Shigatse – Lhasa; For Option B, the guide will accompany you to take a taxi to Shigatse Railway Station, then take the train from Shigatse to Lhasa. Upon your arrival in Lhasa, we will arrange for you to be dropped off at your hotel. Taxi & train fares are included in the cost.

Local Tour guide, Dhargie helped us to know so much history and facts about Lhasa.Vehicle provided was top quality and so was the driver Lhapa, a true gentleman. 4.00The itinerary was well planned and hotels are reasonably good. Tour guide Lobsang and Lhakdon are pretty well verse and planned ahead to avoid the crowds, especially to Lhakdon for handling the visa at the border. She made sure we are safe and helped to communicate to the guide at Nepal. Thank you very much. Not to forget our patience and good navigation skill Driver, Mr Penpa. He always alerts and ensure our safety while driving on numerous hairpin turn. our safety is well taken care. Will recommend your services if given a chance. 5.00August 2023 We had a wonderful time with Lobsang （our local tour guide），he is a great guy and also the driver very experienced, their warm welcome and detailed info about the local made me feel at home! The trip was really perfect from an organizational point of view! The beauty of Potala Palace is astonishing! I am starting to miss being there!

5.00I have arrived home safe and sound and wanted to let you know that we had a FANTASTIC time in Tibet, even though one of the ladies got ill. Darhyge was amazing, so knowledgeable, thoughtful and caring.I would definitely recommend him as a guide to anyone traveling to Tibet. Thank you for arranging this holiday for me, I really enjoyed visiting Potala Palace, Yamdrok Lake and learning about the different people and places that make up this huge country that I live in. 5.00a 6-day/5-night Lhasa Shigatse group tour with Great Tibet Tour in September 2019. There are three times group airport pickup and drop off included. It is about a 1-hour journey from the airport to the central city. I stayed at the Shangbala Hotel in Lhasa. Many of the clients in the Shangbala Hotel were foreign. I enjoyed breakfast at the Shangbala Hotel. Every morning, my guide will meet us at the hotel hall around 9:30 am. So I can enjoy a good sleep. The tour guide and driver were both Tibetan. They will talk about Tibetan history and their lifestyle with us. I felt relaxed during my trip. I will recommend this Tour to my friends and family who would like to travel to Tibet.

I am very pleased with the trip. On the way to Shigatse, we saw the real Yark and Tent beside the road. We go to visit the local people here to learn their real life. It really impressed me. 5.00I really want to thank all of you. From the initial booking to the end of our vacation, everything was wonderful. The hotels were very good. In Lhasa especially. The western breakfast at Lhasa hotel was very good. For lunch and dinner, our guide Danzhen picked great restaurants and were there to help us order if we needed it. Meanwhile, he had good information and we enjoyed hearing about the history and context for the sites we visited. Lhasa city had many majestic buildings, magnificent temples, history. Yamdroktso Lake was so beautiful. We were already attracted by this beauty. In fact, my bag was missing in Shigatse, and Danzhen helped me find it. He saved my trip!
