Alyeska Pipeline Viewing Point
Here you will find informational displays about the pipeline and an example of a pig, the device used to clean and inspect the inside of the pipeline. It took 70,000 construction workers and $8 billion of investment capital to build the famous 4-foot silver thread that snakes its way through 800 miles of Alaskan wilderness to reach the nation's thirsty refineries, crossing mountain ranges, earthquake zones, permafrost, and rivers. Some 420 miles of the pipeline are elevated (with 554 animal crossings), and outside Fairbanks is the place to see it. As you watch, consider this: Every hour, more than a million dollars of black gold flows through it.
James Dalton Highway
From Fairbanks, the Elliot Highway takes you about 73 miles north to the start of the Dalton Highway, traversing boreal forest hills of birch and aspen trees and tundra valleys of streams and small rivers. You will cross the mighty Yukon River and pass through the valley to Finger Mountain, a treeless high point with short walkways and kiosks to learn about the region’s geology and alpine tundra. The Arctic Circle turnout has bathrooms and a picnic area.

This was an incredible experience. Alan was a great tour guide. The temperatures were below -50 throughout many parts of the drive, but we felt totally safe and looked after throughout the entire 12 hour road trip. This was truly an adventure, and one that I'll remember for the rest of my life!

We went on this tour on 1/4/26. It was a long trip in a van that was packed to capacity. The back row in the van had 4 seats of which the outside two seats had big tire humps on the floor that limited the amount of floor space available for feet. The tour operator should not have filled the van to capacity. The two outer seats on the back row should not be considered as a seat. The drive was long and Nick did a great job of getting us there and back safely. We stopped several times on the way back to take pics of the Northern Lights which I really appreciated. We were glad that we went, but it was a very uncomfortable ride due to seating on the back row.

My family and I had a great time on this excursion. Nick was our guide and he took incredible care of us and our fellow travelers. He picked us up from our hotel in Fairbanks in a nice warm van which kept us cozy for the whole trip. We started by going t9 a gas station so he could get gas and we were able to pick up snacks and drinks to tide us over until dinner. He gave us the timeline for events and made great time. This is an incredible view of Alaska. Watching the terrain change as we approached the Arctic Circle was magical. My son and his girlfriend enjoyed it so much and got lots of great pictures and we now have another family memory to cherish. Thank you, Nick. My advice, bring water and drinks and so food to keep you sated since dinner won't be until after you have been to the Arctic Circle sign. And the food at the Yukon River Camp is so delicious. And the portions are Alaska sized. And they have nice clean bathrooms and a great gift shop. Highly recommend.

The tour guide Nick, was late around 30 Mins this morning. When we had dinner at Yukon river camp, Nick promised to drop us off at SpringHill Marriott after accepted me $20 then refused to commit his promise when we reached downtown of Fairbanks. He also spoke dirty words to us!

We are very disappointed that our trip was cancelled at the last minute. It was just an email cancellation at 10 PM for next morning's tour. The official reason is deteriorating weather with 14 inches of snow. But the weather forecast at Fairbanks, Livengood and Coldfoot were all partially sunny with NO snow. They appear cancel for other reasons e.g. not enough customers for the tour day. This tour company's communications are very poor. We called multiple times for questions before the trip. But no one ever answered their phone. Voice mails were never returned either.

I was collected at 9am. Temperatures were -45 to -25 throughout the tour. We rode, mostly in silence, for 3.5 hours until we reached the Dalton Highway sign where we took pictures. The scenery was nice. We stopped at a roadside mom and pop restaurant/souvenir shop on the way to the Arctic sign (another 2 hours) and on the way back. The return trip was a meal stop. Not really a lot of options. About half of us ate the snacks and food we brought with us. We didn't go to the spot under the pipeline I asked about. Nick said we'd stop on the way back but I knew that wouldn't happen because it would be too dark. And of course we didn't. I believe I paid about $250 for this very uneventful tour. I rode about 10 hours in a van with a few picture stops. Not for me. Nick was very pleasant but did not engage with us unless we asked a question. He jokingly asked if we had any funny stories to share. A rider said "Isn't that what you should be doing?" On the return trip, I put on my headphones and watched movies while the other 11 passengers for the most part slept or sat in silence. Thankfully there was wifi. I've taken several day long tours and was always offered at least a bottle of water. But in their defense, they definitely said bring your drinks and snacks-lol. Take this tour at your own risk....
