Alyeska Pipeline Viewing Point
Here you will find informational displays about the pipeline and an example of a pig, the device used to clean and inspect the inside of the pipeline. It took 70,000 construction workers and $8 billion of investment capital to build the famous 4-foot silver thread that snakes its way through 800 miles of Alaskan wilderness to reach the nation's thirsty refineries, crossing mountain ranges, earthquake zones, permafrost, and rivers. Some 420 miles of the pipeline are elevated (with 554 animal crossings), and outside Fairbanks is the place to see it. As you watch, consider this: Every hour, more than a million dollars of black gold flows through it.
James Dalton Highway
From Fairbanks, the Elliot Highway takes you about 73 miles north to the start of the Dalton Highway, traversing boreal forest hills of birch and aspen trees and tundra valleys of streams and small rivers. You will cross the mighty Yukon River and pass through the valley to Finger Mountain, a treeless high point with short walkways and kiosks to learn about the region’s geology and alpine tundra. The Arctic Circle turnout has bathrooms and a picnic area.

5.00What an awesome experience we had with Nick! It's a long ride & the roads are rough, but he was a great driver navigating the snowy/icy conditions & making it look easy! Being able to see so many changes in the landscape was amazing. Nick was fabulous helping with our mom (& all the other guests) as we had several snowy/icy spots to navigate getting out for breaks & food. We kept an eye out for wildlife, but the moose & bear were keeping to themselves on that snowy day. He also tried to get us some views of the Northern Lights on the way back by stopping at some great spots, but no luck. If you take the tour with him, ask him what BP stands for!

5.00Very long drive, but beautiful scenery, and worth seeing the Arctic Circle at the end of the trip. Please make sure to bring food because you're not going to get any along the way!

5.00This was awesome! Our driver, Aaron, was fantastic. We felt very safe with him driving even on the treacherous Dalton Hwy and he had lots of information to share. Stopping at the pipeline and the Yukon River were great and arriving at the Arctic Circle was surreal. We had dinner at the Yukon River Camp which was very good and even saw Moose and some Northern lights on the way back. Would definitely recommend this trip.

5.00Alan is such a thoughtful guide. He seems to already know your concerns and often has answers before you even ask. He genuinely takes care of everyone on the tour. The van has Wi-Fi, which makes the long drive more comfortable, and although pickup is from one location, Alan kindly drops guests back at their hotels at the end. Seeing the Arctic Circle was surreal. Alan went out of his way to make it special, even adding a little fun when taking photos. We truly appreciated his care and attention, and it made the whole experience unforgettable.

1.00I would suggest not taking this tour. For one thing, the legroom for a 12 hour tour was extremely cramped, and my knees were rubbing into the row ahead. Also, there was no tour guide providing information about the sites, wildlife, history, or geology of the region we were visiting or passing through. While we did have a very skilled driver on challenging roads, we were simply told this is our stop and to read the signs when we arrived at a stop.
