Ancient City of Ephesus
After greeting, we will have 20 mins. Drive to Ephesus area. Ephesus (Rev. 2:1-7), major port city on the Aegean, was the commercial, political, and religious center of all of Asia Minor. After a lunatic completely burned the Temple of Diana (Artemis) on the night, that Alexander the Great was born in 356 B.C. The Ephesians worked for 120 years to complete a magnificent reconstructed temple, one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. The city became part of the Roman Empire in the second century B.C. As a Roman capital of Asia Minor, Ephesus boasted a population approaching 250,000 people. The Apostle Paul’s first visit to Ephesus was brief—during his second missionary tour (Acts 18:19-21). His second visit lasted about three years—during his third missionary tour (Acts 19:1 to 20:31). Luke’s account of the worship of Diana appears in Acts 19:34-35. The Great Theatre (stadium) mentioned in Acts 19:29-31 could seat 25,000 people. Walk the marble-paved street with grooves made by chariot wheels. See the Fountain of Trojan, the Library of Celsus and the Great Theatre.Visit the Chapel of the Virgin Mary (Double Church), where the Third Ancient Council convened.

Long day tour under the sun, the tour was good, the guide was very knowledgeable, perhaps just the sun made the tour a bit more tiring. We were able to skip the rug making process as we were not interested and had seen one in Istanbul. The driver and guide were responsible to watch the time to make sure they get us back on time to the cruise ship.

Yavuz our guide was knowledgeable, courteous, and kind, taking us on an unforgettable adventure through history. Much like the architecture we saw, he built for us a story that we will long remember of Ancient Ephesus from a Christian history and Biblical perspective. You will leave understanding things that go beyond a Sunday school lesson or a sermon. The pages of Acts 19-28 and the letter to the Ephesians come alive in ways I could never have imagined before. I highly recommend this tour, this company, and its guides, of whom Yavuz is an excellent representative. You will never regret this purchase. You will never forget this experience! Pro tip: wear comfortable shoes and bring a fan or hat or umbrella. It does get hot in the summer, but is bearable if you are prepared.

You do not see the new excavations of the “ ancient houses” on this trip. When I saw what others had seen I was disappointed that we missed it . There was a description of Paul’s traveling Turkey and the churches that he established of which Ephesus was one . The lunch was terrible .. it was a preordered menu in a very busy glass atrium type house that was very hot .. we would have much preferred to have been outside even though the temp was high. At least there was a breeze. We left lunch before it was over because it was too hot . The tour guide was good and gave us a choice as to whether we wanted to stop for shopping. the car was very nice , new and clean .

Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, flexible and friendly, which was essential because we were traveling with a toddler. He was happy to accommodate the tour to suit our needs. The vehicle was also very nice.
