The spectacular and awe-inspiring Birds of Eden is the largest free-flight single dome aviary in the world. The sanctuary encompasses 2.3ha of forested land, covered by mesh and with a 1.2km walkway. Visitors are welcome to explore at their own pace or request a guided tour at no extra cost.

The sanctuary is home to 220 different species & subspecies of birds totaling over 3500 birds. From the indigenous and beautiful Knysna lourie with its awkward call for such a gracious bird, the other lourie (Turaco) species, parrots, parakeets, waterfowl, flamingos, starlings, robins and graceful cranes.

The sanctuary includes a deep gorge with a waterfall and the aviary is approximately 50m high, covering all the treetops and allowing ample flying space for its winged inhabitants. This sanctuary is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Wheelchair accessible. All Weather facility – during rain you will get wet.

The sanctuary is home to 220 different species & subspecies of birds totalling over 3500 birds. From the indigenous and beautiful Knysna lourie with its awkward call for such a gracious bird, the other lourie (Turaco) species, parrots, parakeets, waterfowl, flamingos, starlings, robins and graceful cranes. Being a sanctuary where many previously pet caged birds have now been given the opportunity to spread their wings, this is their first chance to make adequate use of their wings and to experience natural avian behaviour.

Beautiful, easy walking. Stand still for a while and see more and more birds. There are even small antilopes on th ground.

Loved all the bird songs. Beautifully done environment. A coolish day with sunshine was perfect!! Also enjoyed the weavers and all the brightly colored birds.

Nice experience to get acquainted with the special wealth of birds in South Africa. Along a 'boardwalk' you walk through this beautifully landscaped course between the woods and along lapping water features while enjoying the beautiful exotic birdlife

Such a wonderful surprise! The design is fantastic- a huge natural space with a boardwalk that meanders throughout as you follow it on a journey of exploration. A quiet, peaceful environment with discoveries around every corner. I felt like a kid in a candy store- excited with each new bird spotting. Such a relaxing way to go bird watching! Absolutely loved it.

This was beyond expectations. So close to the birds and yet they are still wild . There’s nothing worse than seeing birds in cages but the huge netted area gives them freedom and helps educate us .

What a wonderful place, which totally exceeded our expectations. Booked this to kill some time on a quiet day but as soon as we walked through the door from the entrance to the sanctuary we were mesmerized. Amazing birds that are in touching distance, the sound is amazing and what I thought was a quick walk round turned in to about 2hrs of wandering, searching, staring in amazement. We took binoculars which was a bonus so if you have some, take them. A really lovely couple of hours that was more than we anticipated.

This is a great place to visit if you have two or three hours to spare, although you could go through in a short period of time. There are some amazing birds which are all easily visible and an incredible variety with some of the most beautiful colours imaginable. The environment is extremely natural, and although it is a very, very large enclosure – there is no sense that it is artificial or contrived. All birds have been rescued and the ethos has to be commended. A very well worthwhile excursion.

Beautiful and very large bird enclosure. You can walk through the large enclosure via a boardwalk and see the most beautiful birds. Highly recommended!

The forest is absolutely beautiful and so are the birds. You need to walk slowly and take your time look everywhere because some birds hide. There are birds that come right up to you and sing and make noises.
