Monkeyland is the world's first and largest free-roaming primate sanctuary hosting 9 exotic and indigenous species and over 550 primates. At Monkeyland you will go on a 1-hour, guided tour into the 12-hectare forest with one of the trained professional guides. The guides will attempt to find many different species and give the you ample time to take photos and ask questions. Group size is limited to 16 guests.
You can book a guided tour in French but we would need a minimum of 48 hours notification and a set time of arrival to guarantee this for you.
On this platform you can buy a single ticket for Monkeyland or a combination with Monkeyland and Birds of Eden (world's largest single dome aviary). That is a combo ticket. You can also buy a TripTic which is the best Per sanctuary rate for Monkeyland, Birds of Eden and Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary. If you have a child who is not yet 3 you do not have to pay for them just bring them along as we are open to all ages.

Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary
The aim of the sanctuary is to afford these wonderfully intelligent creatures a healthier, more natural life and aims to raise public awareness about primates. Over 550 apes, monkeys and lemurs live at Monkeyland. On arrival in the parking lot you will go through a screening station where we require everyone aged 3 and up to have a form filled in and temperature taken from the wrist. You will then be escorted to reception where after you have your ticket one of our guides will take you on a 45 min to 1-hour tour. If you require a guided tour not to be in English but in Afrikaans, German or French then please book this at least 48 hours in advance. On your tour with one of the most experienced primate guides in South Africa, you will see an array of primates living out their natural lives in the 12-ha indigenous forest. This sanctuary is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Wheelchair accessible. All Weather facility Masks are required at all times.

5.00Our guided tour at Monkeyland in Plettenberg Bay was an absolute highlight of our trip. From the moment we stepped into the forest, the experience felt immersive, exciting, and wonderfully unique. One of the biggest surprises was just how many incredible photo opportunities there were. Everywhere we turned, there were monkeys swinging overhead, lounging on branches, or curiously watching us from just a few steps away. Our entire group was thrilled by how close we were able to get without ever disturbing them and we left with hundreds of fantastic photos to remember the day. The rope bridge crossing was another unforgettable moment. Suspended high among the trees, it added a fun sense of adventure to the tour and gave us a beautiful vantage point to see the monkeys moving through the canopy. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about the sanctuary and its mission. The entire experience felt safe, well‑organized, and deeply respectful of the animals. If you’re visiting Plettenberg Bay, Monkeyland is an absolute must. It’s the perfect blend of education, adventure, and pure joy and you’ll leave with more photos than you know what to do with!

5.00We arrived quite late at 16:00. Our guide Ralph told us that the monkeys were now less active and would retreat more to the trees. We still had a great time here and saw a lot of monkeys. At the same time, we felt like we were almost alone here. Ralph took us around the area for an hour, showed us lots of monkeys and gave us lots of information. We had a great hour.

5.001 hour tour with a guide bought as a combined 3 centre (monkey land, birds of eden, jukani) plus a boat trip. Knowledgeable guide even though she hadn't been there long. We managed to see all the monkey types bar 1 which is very elusive. Bought a 1 sq metre piece of land to ensure the long term preservation of the land for the animals. Well worth the money.

5.00Little dodger doesn't have anything on this sanctuary. Monkeyland was a first for me and how fun the experience was. It is wonderful to see places like this where monkeys can freely move and live their lives. We did the guided tour, and it was amazing, our guide was so knowledgeable and answered all questions with ease. The monkeys were definitely the highlight and seeing them and their antiques were incredible. If ever in South Africa do visit this playground and learn more about these rambunctious creatures.

5.00Brilliant opportunity to walk through a forested area with a guide with free roaming monkeys within a few feet of you. Guided tour lasts around an hour and is very informative but the monkeys are the stars of the show! We took loads of photos and everyone was thrilled with the number and close proximity of the monkeys There is a rope bridge to cross as part of the tour and ground is uneven, plus there are quite a few mozzies so lather yourself with the insect repellent they provide! We loved it all! The Birds of Eden attraction is literally next door so maybe plan to visit both on a combo ticket as provides a saving.
