The historic building of the Slovak National Theatre was built in the neo-Renaissance style in 1886 as the City Theatre, designed by Viennese architects F. Fellner and H. Helmer.
This most attractive Art Nouveau building in Bratislava is officially known as the Church of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, but is commonly referred to simply as the “Blue Church.” Its style, also known as Hungarian Art Nouveau, is echoed by the nearby school on Grösslingova Street. Both buildings were designed by Budapest architect Ödön Lechner (Edmund Lechner) and were built in the early twentieth century (the church was consecrated on October 11, 1913)
