Chingaza National Park
Chingaza National Park is a natural and cultural treasure, the magic of its mountains keeps secrets and thoughts inherited from the Muiscas and Guayupes, indigenous peoples who guarded this territory. Today it is a refuge for the fauna and flora of the Andes that reveal to the visitor the secret of life. The park has an extension of 76,600 hectares and heights between 800 and 4,050 meters above sea level. It has warm and cold temperatures and moor climates. It includes ecosystems as varied as wetlands, jungles, and humid forests. The temperature ranges between 4 and 21.5 °C. At the entrance of the natural reserve, our local guide will be waiting for you, who will guide us along the Rincón del Oso Trail, which begins at the Piedras Gordas Control Post inside the Park. If we are lucky, we will be able to appreciate the spectacled bears and deer that inhabit the area. The tour lasts 3 or 3.5 hours depending on your resistance.

Chingaza National Park is a beautiful place, and definitely worth visiting. This tour was a nice, easy way to visit the park. The driver and guide meet you at your hotel in Bogotá and drive you to the park. We stopped in a mountain town to get snacks and pick up a local guide before entering the park. The national park is very strictly regulated, so it is easiest to hire a guide, even for short hikes. You are required to check in at the visitor center and must have your passport. You also either need your yellow fever vaccination card, or to sign a waiver accepting the risk of yellow fever exposure. You then must watch an orientation video and have your bag searched before entering the park. No single use plastics are allowed. The hike itself isn't too difficult, but it will feel harder due to the elevation. It's much cooler in the park than it is down in Bogotá, and there is a good chance of rain pretty much any time of year. The trail can be a little slick in places, and you should bring good, waterproof footwear. There is water everywhere. This park supplies the water for the city of Bogotá, which is part of the reason it is so strictly regulated. The local guide provides very interesting insights into the flora and fauna in the park, as well as stories from the indigenous Muisca people. It's a surreal place with clouds constantly rolling through and alternately shrouding and revealing the páramo landscape. The mountain air is wonderful. We saw lots of evidence of Andean bears, but didn't see any bears, unfortunately. This is a nice way to spend half a day outside the city.

We went on the lagoon hike (almost 4 miles) with our family (6 year olds and an 11 year old). The hike itself was not very challenging- uphill to the lagoons and then downhill back. Our local guide, Luis Jaime, was SUPER knowledgeable about the flora/fauna, ecology and geology. The pace of the hike was slower than we were expecting because of the explanations, which was our only criticism. We had a Spanish to English translator from the company- Maria, and she was fantastic. The park does not allow single-use plastics into the park, which we wish we would have known because we had a few water bottles and sandwiches wrapped in plastic wrap. We had great weather, and stopped to take pretty pictures at various miradors. Overall, I recommend this trip.

The trip was really nice. The nature there is awsome and everything worked out without any problems. The tour was shorter as in the description, but defently long enought for us. It was relaxing to be back in bogotá in the afternoon. The spanisch guide had a lot of intersting facts to share but sadly the englisch guide shortend the explinations a lot.

The tour was perfect, they passed us at the airport, as we were stopping in Bogotá, and they were very punctual; they also helped us to find a cash machine and a place to eat breakfast before starting the tour. The staff was friendly and attentive all the time and the Chingaza National Park is indeed beautiful, a unique experience of Colombia that becomes perfect with the explanations of the two guides who accompany you. We certainly recommend this Service and this experience.
