Sólheimajökull is a raw and rugged outlet glacier in an ever changing environment.
Glacial landscape is amazing and dynamic, including crevice, holes and small black volcanic sand hills. Sometimes we are able to look into the small holes or caves.
The 3 hour Glacier walk is a great glacier adventure where you can try for yourself how it feels to walk on glacier ice. We walk on Sólheimajökull glacier (a part of the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap) on the south coast of Iceland where we have our glacier walk base. Nearby Skógar and Vík.

Sólheimajökull is the southernmost glacier in Iceland, the ice is up to about 200 meters thick and the total size with the ice cap Mýrdalsjökull about 600 km2. Underneath the main ice cap is the caldera of the volcano Katla, one of Iceland´s biggest volcano. Difficulty: The glacier walk do not require any special skills the tour can be enjoyed by people in good health. What to bring: As we will be spending time in the unpredictable Icelandic weather, it is important to be prepared. We recommend warm outdoor clothing including: • Waterproof jacket and trousers • Warm head wear, for example, woolen hat/balaclava • Gloves • Appropriate hiking boots/shoes are requires Our guides are locals with years of experience and a passion for the Icelandic nature. Your guide will tell you interesting facts about Katla and it's surrounding as well as provide you with enlightening entertainment along the way.

5.00We did 5 days with Southcoast Adventure from walking on glacier, hiking in the glacier, Glacier lagoon, different hiking tours in the remote outback and different valleys. and visiting Westman Island for its volcanic history. For each activity we had a different guide, who were all very good and interesting. Don't be surprised about the expenses, but it was worthwhile. We could not have done it on our own.Their equipment is superb.

5.00After being assisted to get our full equipment by the joyfull team members of South Coast in the large yellow bus on the parking (shoes, ice crampons, picket, harnass), off we (14) went towards the glacier through the gravel/ash. Arriving at the bottom of the glacier, our guide explained us how to put on the ice crampons underneath our shoes and how we will have to walk on ice. What followed was close to extra ordinary, as we went up the icy hills of the glacier, getting clarifications from our expert geologist guide, having splendid views, both on the ice we were walking and next to us, as well as the ice and mountaints surronding us. We will not quickly forget this wonderfull experience, realized with great spririt and humor by the guide, but always in a professional and supportive way. A big thanks to Kish, Adam and all the others!
