I want to say that we thoroughly enjoyed the experience but I am one of those travellers who have certain expectations. And for the most part this was a fun and enlightening experience but I feel compelled to share a few observations. We were a group of five. We were asked the day before if we could come 30 minutes earlier than our scheduled time because they had booked another group right on top of us. It was fortunate that we had the flexibility to arrive earlier -- but to me this portended a rushed session...which turned out to the be case. The location of the experience is somewhat remote -- in a neighbourhood well outside of the downtown area where most visitors stay. It was a considerable drive -- which was reinforced for us as we had difficulty calling a taxi back into town. Ultimately, we split up our group in two to make calling a ride easier. The building is not well marked -- we got dropped off on one side of the building only to work out that the entrance was on an opposite side. The workshop is semi-subterranean. It isn't a large space. Once you are on the correct side of the building there was a flag that directed you to the workshop. Because of our party size of five we were split into two groups each taking half of the session. It might have been better if the organisers had advised that this would be the case -- the duration of the workshop was all the same regardless of group size. So this effectively meant that we were perhaps not given the fully allotted time. Or who knows? They might have double booked us with another smaller group to share the workshop time? The class is ONLY on making the noodles. This was hands-on and fun. There was no instruction or demonstration on how to cook the noodles. The kitchen in the back of the workshop space is very small and compact -- so there was no capacity to even observe the cooking process. The instructor is amazingly skilled and personable. His day job is to run a restaurant where he makes these soba noodles by hand each and every day. Service is only during lunch time. However, his English language skills are quite limited. So he reads from a script much of the time -- and because of the language barrier, there is no opportunity to ask questions. After we have made the noodles, we are asked to take a seat at a table and wait. The instructor and the kitchen helper prepared the noodles and accompaniments. The description of the experience is a bit confusing. Maybe misleading. It mentions tempura. We thought it meant, given the 90 minutes duration, that it would include making tempura. But it did not include any instructions or demonstrations on making tempura. It meant that they would cook the noodles we made and they would provide, as part of the experience, a selection of tempura to accompany the soba. The soba tasting was very generous. We were each given a portion of the noodles along with two different dipping broths and a variety of ingredients to add to the dipping broths if we so desired. One broth was cold and one was hot. They each had different traditional/ typical accompaniments. And then a serving of tempura -- six pieces, including four different vegetables, one whitefish and one shrimp. Everything was delicious and ample enough for a light lunch. With regards to the group following us -- they arrived on time right on top of us as we were eating. It did feel a bit awkward but we quickly wrapped up and left. In summary, it was educational and fun but there were some limitations to the experience -- language difficulty; limited learning experience that perhaps a better description would have clarified; and a somewhat remote location.

It was a unique experience. The hosts were very sweet and lovely. They were running behind schedule the day we booked and asked us to come later which was no problem. The ad also mentions tempura. Please note there is no demo or instructions but they make it and serve it to you. It was excellent. Make sure if you go not to eat because you eat your soba noodles and delicious tempura. Very filling food. Enjoyed the experience. One suggestion is the signage on the event space is very poor. Very difficult to find.

There’s a newfound appreciation for soba now that we’ve experienced making it. It was fun and a bit of muscle arm work. Taku was very friendly. We encourage others to try this experience. The soba was delicious and we had a great time making memories!

Fun and easy date night idea in Sapporo! It is near Shiroi Koibito park and 6 mins walk from the Tozai line station. Hosts are the owners of the soba shop and were friendly and explained the process of making soba noodles from scratch. It was pretty simple to follow along as beginners. Highly recommend this experience if you like to try new things :)

What a fantastic and fun experience! Taku was an incredible teacher who had us making soba almost the moment we arrived. His patience, kindness, and straight forward teaching style made this the highlight of our Hokkaido trip.

We had the best time making soba noodles. It was such a fun, hands-on experience, and the instructor made it easy to follow along. We learned about the ingredients, rolled and cut the dough ourselves, and then got to enjoy our own fresh soba at the end. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for something authentic and memorable.
