The three major Japanese foods are sushi, soba, and tempura. Experience authentic soba making at a traditional soba restaurant This soba-making experience was originally designed for Japanese guests. In Japan, many people love soba but have never made it themselves.Soba-making is traditionally considered artisanal and usually takes place in an enclosed workshop, with many soba-making classes requiring a fixed schedule and lengthy training. In response to requests to experience soba noodles more easily and in earnest, this hands-on class was held at a full-fledged soba restaurant that has been open for many years. During the experience, you will learn traditional soba making methods, such as mixing dough, stretching, cutting noodles, and tasting freshly made soba noodles. This Program follows an established structure refined through years of practice. English explanations are concise and include visual demonstrations. This experience is ideal for those who want to learn and experience Japanese food culture through hands-on learning rather than detailed lectures or Guided tours. This is not a cooking school or sightseeing performance, but an opportunity to step into an authentic soba restaurant working environment, experience traditions that are not usually open to the public, and understand how to eat soba. After the soba making experience, you will receive your own soba noodles and [tempura made by a Japanese food craftsman]. Japanese people are accustomed to eating tempura with soba.I want more customers to experience Japanese food. * This is a real handmade soba restaurant with over 10 years of history. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us via VIRTOR.Respond quickly. BEST SOBA MAKING EXPERIENCE EVER! ✨ Easily one of the simplest cooking experience I’ve done and can follow without question. Truly a very enjoyable and fun time for me and my friends, being guided by Taku to make Soba, and also learning a little history about Soba in Japan. 🤩

Great experience! Very simple and easy to follow. I enjoyed how hands on it was and liked how everyone was so friendly. They don’t speak fluent English but made it work well enough and was able to talk about the history of soba around Japan. Would definitely recommend!

I want to say that we thoroughly enjoyed the experience but I am one of those travellers who have certain expectations. And for the most part this was a fun and enlightening experience but I feel compelled to share a few observations. We were a group of five. We were asked the day before if we could come 30 minutes earlier than our scheduled time because they had booked another group right on top of us. It was fortunate that we had the flexibility to arrive earlier -- but to me this portended a rushed session...which turned out to the be case. The location of the experience is somewhat remote -- in a neighbourhood well outside of the downtown area where most visitors stay. It was a considerable drive -- which was reinforced for us as we had difficulty calling a taxi back into town. Ultimately, we split up our group in two to make calling a ride easier. The building is not well marked -- we got dropped off on one side of the building only to work out that the entrance was on an opposite side. The workshop is semi-subterranean. It isn't a large space. Once you are on the correct side of the building there was a flag that directed you to the workshop. Because of our party size of five we were split into two groups each taking half of the session. It might have been better if the organisers had advised that this would be the case -- the duration of the workshop was all the same regardless of group size. So this effectively meant that we were perhaps not given the fully allotted time. Or who knows? They might have double booked us with another smaller group to share the workshop time? The class is ONLY on making the noodles. This was hands-on and fun. There was no instruction or demonstration on how to cook the noodles. The kitchen in the back of the workshop space is very small and compact -- so there was no capacity to even observe the cooking process. The instructor is amazingly skilled and personable. His day job is to run a restaurant where he makes these soba noodles by hand each and every day. Service is only during lunch time. However, his English language skills are quite limited. So he reads from a script much of the time -- and because of the language barrier, there is no opportunity to ask questions. After we have made the noodles, we are asked to take a seat at a table and wait. The instructor and the kitchen helper prepared the noodles and accompaniments. The description of the experience is a bit confusing. Maybe misleading. It mentions tempura. We thought it meant, given the 90 minutes duration, that it would include making tempura. But it did not include any instructions or demonstrations on making tempura. It meant that they would cook the noodles we made and they would provide, as part of the experience, a selection of tempura to accompany the soba. The soba tasting was very generous. We were each given a portion of the noodles along with two different dipping broths and a variety of ingredients to add to the dipping broths if we so desired. One broth was cold and one was hot. They each had different traditional/ typical accompaniments. And then a serving of tempura -- six pieces, including four different vegetables, one whitefish and one shrimp. Everything was delicious and ample enough for a light lunch. With regards to the group following us -- they arrived on time right on top of us as we were eating. It did feel a bit awkward but we quickly wrapped up and left. In summary, it was educational and fun but there were some limitations to the experience -- language difficulty; limited learning experience that perhaps a better description would have clarified; and a somewhat remote location.
