Negombo Fish Market

Negombo was home to Sri Lankan fishermen and women who engaged in traditional fishing methods long before the city became a renowned beach destination with hundreds of beach resorts lining its sandy shore. This large fish market, located at the western end of Negombo's seashore, is the center of all morning action. The Negombo Fish Market is one of Sri Lanka's largest and most important markets, which drives Negombo's economy.

Our tuk tuk tour around Negombo with Nishan from Heli Tuk Tuk Tours was genuinely one of the highlights of our trip. From the moment we set off, Nishan made us feel completely welcome, relaxed and in very safe hands. His local knowledge was incredible – not just the “touristy bits”, but the real Negombo. We saw places we’d never have found on our own, learnt so much about local life, culture and history, and laughed a lot along the way. Nothing felt rushed or scripted. Nishan was thoughtful, flexible and clearly passionate about what he does. He went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable, enjoying ourselves, and getting the most out of the experience. It felt more like being shown around by a friend than being on a tour. If you’re in Negombo and even remotely considering a tuk tuk tour – do it, and ask for Nissan. An authentic, joyful, and memorable experience that we’ll be talking about for a long time. Thank you, Nissan – you were amazing!

The tour was very well planned, and he was thoughtful and informative. He also could coordinate the boat tour, which was very nice.

Negombo is probably not the most fascinating place on earth, but this tour makes the most out of it. The experience was enjoyable and the driver was very friendly. Strongly recommend to go for the boat ride option with fruits and monkey island visit!

Great fun for a couple of hours! Definite must do. Nishan picked us up from our hotel & we had a thrilling drive through the streets of Negombo seeing life from a tuk tuk! The Buddhist temple was fascinating (get their booklet), the fish market was so interesting & St Mary's church was good to see. Nishan was an excellent driver & a very good guide - thank you!

Entertaining tour with lots of interesting information. Our guide Nishan took good care of us and completed the tour without any hassle, or informed us beforehand where he is going now and if we want to do that e.g. Ex. Auyveda garden. We can recommend the tour.

Had a day to kill before flying back home and this was the perfect way to do it! Our driver was on time and took us around parts of Negombo tourists would never think about. Went to temples and churches, fish and fruit markets, the old prison and docks. The tuk tuk was also modified which made for a great ride 🛺. Would 100% recommend!

Had such a great day with my guide! He truly went above and beyond to make it a wonderful experience. We got to see so much of negombo and highly recommend the lagoon tour as well!!

Had a good couple of hours by Nishah the driver/guide. He had some groovy music playing too ☺️ A careful driver and pleasant gentleman. Was happy to stop and let me get buy some fruits. Interesting anecdotes with his story telling.

We had a brilliant time on this tour and learned much about the history of the city. We saw so much of the city and had the opportunity to do various activities during the tour (visited an Ayurvedic garden, visited a market, option to go on a lagoon safari). Worth noting that you visit various temples so dress appropriately/bring a shawl. Thank you for a great experience!
