You will need your own car on this tour which you will be guided along with an audio program and marked destinations throughout the first commercial wind farm in Southern Calfornia. Once booked, we send you an email confirmation along with an App download and instructions. The tour starts with a display yard of non-operating wind turbines of successes and failures, along with a stop to a real generating wind turbine where you can get up close and take pictures. The tour ends with a stop at the Indigo Power Plant and retired wind farm. There you can exit on 19th Avenue to Indian Canyon Road and leave with more knowledge about renewable energy! The tour takes approximately one hour depending on your pace. We ask that you respect others by not gathering at the marked destinations. Please allow cars ahead of you to finish their exploration before your turn. One booking, includes two adults.

The Palm Springs Windmill Self-Driving Tours is an interactive, educational and fun tour for friends and family. The tour is curated by Tom Spiglanin, Tour Manager, in which he will guide you along with an audio program and marked destination's throughout the first commercial wind farm in the United States. The tour starts with a display yard of non-operating wind turbines of successes and failures, along with a stop to a real generating wind turbine where you can get up close and take pictures. The tour ends with a stop at the old Enron machines. There you can exit on 19th Avenue to Indian Canyon Road more knowledgeable about renewable energy! The tour takes approximately one hour depending on your pace. We ask that you respect others by not gathering at the marked destinations. Please allow cars ahead of you to finish their exploration before your turn.

5.00Wasn’t sure if I wanted to do the golf cart tour or the less expensive self guided. We chose the self guided and were perfectly happy. The gentleman that worked there also gave us a great intro prior to starting the driving tour.

5.00Great tour to learn about some green energy history. Self guided though the app so you can go at your own pace. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Hold on to your hat because it will try to fly away.

5.00Honestly such an incredible tour! We opted for the VIP tour and it was fascinating. Learned a lot and our guide Tom was very knowledgeable and happy to answer all of our questions (of which we had many!). Would recommend to anyone who’s visiting nearby.

5.00Staff were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Learned a lot. Highly suggest going back at sunset for pictures from across the highway-they were amazing photos. The self guided tour was well worth the cost.

5.00I would highly recommend this tour if you are in the palm springs area. I am from the midwest and we have wind farms like this. I have never been able to see one up close though. It made you really appreciate them when you were looking up at them. I would suggest doing the golf cart tour. We learned alot from the tour guide. He was very knowledgeable.

3.00A unique experience, to be sure. After checking in and paying at the reception trailer, we watched a semi-interesting video detailing various facets of the wind farm and wind industry. You then download an app that provides audio explaining the things you see as you drive around the property in your own vehicle. It's interesting to see historical windmill blades and hear about various windmills that are currently operating. Not overwhelmingly interesting, but still decent. It's a bit expensive (about $28 per adult). If you're looking for something out of the ordinary while you're in the Coachella Valley, this tour is it.
