Join your host Putu in her kitchen for a private, hands-on cooking class. Unlike many other TripAdvisor tours, this is a private experience. You and your host will prepare 2-3 authentic Balinese dishes. As you chop, grind and grill, Putu will teach you about the spices she uses in her family recipes as well as the medicinal qualities of Balinese ingredients.
Putu's kitchen is simple, with only a two-burner cooktop but you will be impressed by the speed and fluidity with which she prepares a complex menu with multiple dishes. You will taste a variety of authentic dishes with potential ones being Putu’s grilled eggplant with tomato, grilled fish with Balinese sambal (chili sauce), a curry dish (either chicken, fish or vegetarian) or perhaps a variety of pepes (foods seasoned with local spices, wrapped in banana leaves and steamed). You can expect the cooking lesson to last about 1-2 hours before you sit down and enjoy the delicious meal you helped prepare with your host and her family.

We have done a few cooking classes all over the world and this was by far the best. Putu was so friendly and welcomed us into her home, giving us a tour where she pointed out all the different produce her family was growing on their farm. After a refreshing drink and trying a variety of fruit and snacks for the first time we got stuck into cooking. Putu was great at explaining each stage of the preparation and cooking process, giving us many tips along the way. The food was absolutely delicious and Putu gave us good guidance of some substitute ingredients we might use for the one or so ingredients we might have difficulty finding when we get home to recreate the dishes. Though almost all the ingredients we used we know we will have no trouble locating back home in Australia .

Great experience. Thank you Putu for a great evening we really enjoyed making all the traditional Balinese meals. You made us feel very comfortable and your home is lovely. The food was delicious and we loved that all the produce was home grown. Definitely the best meal of the holiday.

It was so nice. First Putu picked us up at our hotel and drove us to her house. She explained everyting about her Hindu temple and her house. After that the cooking class started. First she explained everything about the fresh ingredients she is growing in her own garden and then the actual cooking started. We knew already something about Indonesian cooking, but we learned so much more. Not only about the cooking, but also about the essentials of the various ingredients. And the best part was of course the eating. It was delicious. Putu is so nice and an expert. Her English is fluent, so it is very easy to understand.

The whole experience was amazing. We were taken through her house, temples, garden and learnt about her family traditions. The cooking experience was 100% hands from chopping to cooking. We highly recommend this cooking class and balinese experience. Well worth it and of course we got to eat all we cooked. She even offers to take home leftovers.

Putu’s cooking class was so fun and informative! The traffic getting to her place was awful because of a ceremony happening in Ubud, but at soon as we arrived, we realized it would be worth it! The food was so delicious and fun to make. Putu made us feel very welcome in her home. We ate as much as we could and then took leftovers back with us as well.

Putu is a very friendly person. She and her husband picked us up at the hotel. She explained about the Balinese culture and showed us her garden and all the fruit and vegetables what grows there. After that we went cooking. She had prepared everything very well, assisted by another woman. We cooked 5 different things, it tasted excellent. Afterwards you get the recipes.

We had an absolutely amazing private cooking class with Putu near Ubud! From the hotel pickup to the warm welcome at her beautiful home, everything was perfect. Putu showed us her family temple, garden, and introduced us to homegrown fruits before we started cooking. Together with her wonderful assistant Made, she guided us through preparing five authentic Balinese dishes with lots of love, flavor, and clear instructions. The atmosphere was so friendly and personal. The food (especially the chicken satay with peanut sauce!) was incredibly delicious, and we could even take leftovers home. It was such a unique, authentic, and heartwarming experience — 100% recommended!

We had the most amazing time learning how to cook traditional Balinese dishes with Mrs. Putu. She is an extraordinary woman - warm, knowledgeable, and incredibly passionate about sharing both her culinary skills and the rich culture of Bali. Not only did she guide us through every step of the cooking process, but she also offered fascinating insights into Balinese traditions, daily life, and spiritual practices. A heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Putu, her lovely cousin, and her kind husband for making this experience so special! We wholeheartedly recommend this cooking class - it’s authentic, intimate, and absolutely delicious. A true highlight of our trip to Bali!

This was an amazing experience for us. Putu and her husband, Pasta, were very accommodating with our pickup and drop-off. Upon arrival, Putu showed us around her home and explained the cultural significance of each section, including the temple and the meaning behind every statue. She then showed us her garden, where she grows a variety of herbs, spices, fruits, and vegetables. Notably, all the ingredients we used for our cooking class came directly from her garden. When we were ready to cook, we were greeted by her cousin, Made, who was there to help us monitor the cooking while Putu taught. We made five dishes in total: Nasi Sela (rice and sweet potato), Tempe Manis (sweet tempe), Perkedel Jagung (corn fritters), Satay Ayam (chicken satay with peanut sauce), and Urab (Balinese salad). We had a lot of fun during the process and learned so much about Balinese cuisine. At the end, we were proud to eat our creations, and they were all delicious. We even had some food left over, and Putu kindly provided takeout boxes for us to bring home. Overall, we really enjoyed this experience and loved the food. Putu, Made, and Pasta were all incredibly welcoming and exemplified great Balinese hospitality. We highly recommend this to anyone; it was one of our favorite experiences in Bali.
