Mohamed V Airport
Casablanca Morocco
Riad Mimouna, Essaouria
El Jadida
From the modern airport, it’s a 2-hour drive south to your first stop, El Jadida. The sleepy walled citadel built during the age of exploration is your introduction to Morocco. Built by the Portuguese on the trade route to India the old city remains relatively untouched. Stroll the ramparts overlooking the Atlantic, walk the streets, and breath in the history that surrounds you as you make your way to the underground cistern. As you descend the stairs under the walled city, you’ll enter another world hidden for centuries and now made famous in several movies (admission included).
Essaouira
Then it’s a 4-hour drive further south to Essaouira. On arrival, you check into the Riad Mimouna deep in the heart of the old city just as the denizens promenade along its narrow streets and alleys. Stop into a restaurant, or dine at any of the food vendors whose cooking smoke fills with air with a feast for the senses. When you’ve had your fill, head back to the riad and the rest of the evening is yours to enjoy.

Essaouira
At sunrise, the soft call of Muizen mixes with the roar of the waves. Start your day with breakfast at the riad before checking out and getting your bags loaded into the vehicle. Then take some time to explore Essaouira. In the light of the sun, Essaouira takes on a new vibrancy as tourists and locals alike move through the ancient streets. Walk the walls of the citadel as the smell of thuja wood fills the air then head down to the busy port filled with fishing boats. If you have a taste for seafood, vendors and their cook fires beckon you to stop and enjoy lunch. When you’ve had your fill, head back to your driver and start the 3-hour transfer to Marrakech.
Marrakech
Arriving in the late afternoon, you’ll check into the Riad Azoulay nestled deep in the heart of the Medina (old city) and then have the rest of the evening to get acquainted with Marrakech. As the sun sets, Marrakech comes alive at the Jemaa el-Fnaa Square. Rows upon rows of vendors fill the square with an otherwordly haze of their cook fires, offering every flavor of Morocco set to the sounds of musicians and the shrill drone of the snake charmers’ flutes. As you walk the rows you’ll encounter wave upon wave of aggressively helpful cooks and servers touting their meals. After dinner, the square is the center for musicians, acrobats, storytellers, and strongmen delighting the crowd for tips. When you can no longer withstand the energy of the Jemaa, head back to your riad for the night.

Marrakech
Today Marrakech awaits! Enjoy a calm breakfast at the riad before your guide meets you for a private 4 hour guided tour of Marrakech (admissions included). The world comes to Marrakech, filling the narrow streets with a symphony of sounds and voices, punctuated with the ever-present scooters weaving their way at breakneck speed through the crowds. You’ll walk the Medina led by your guide and not miss a site. From the Saadian Tombs to the Madrasa and everything in between. You’ll see magnificently restored palaces, and massive ruins of long past empires. As you walk, the delicacies of Marrakech are sold from every corner and your guide will make sure you can sample as you please (Taste of Marrakech upgrade available). After the tour, the rest of the day is yours. Take a carriage ride to the Menara Gardens with its olive groves and a massive artificial lake. Unknown Location
n the morning as Marrakech springs to life, you’ll enjoy breakfast at the riad before checking out and meeting your driver for the adventure south. Like a formidable wall, the High Atlas Mountains grow closer as you begin your ascent. For 4 hours, you’ll wind your way up and over the High Atlas Mountains with its sharp turns, steep drops, and dramatic vistas as you venture through the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass.
Ait Ben Haddou
Descending the mountains, you’ll arrive at Kasbah Aït Benhaddou. A fortified village from the 11th century, this massive site and current UNESCO world heritage site held the key to Marrakech, situated along the ancient trans-Saharan trade routes. Venture over the bridge and into this centuries-old time capsule. Uneven stone streets twist and turn as you climb towards the summit of the Kasbah, passing small shops and vendors as you go. Your efforts are rewarded as you reach the top with its views of the Atlas and the valley below.
A short drive away from Aït Benhaddou, on the edge of Ouarzazate, is Atlas Studios. Morocco itself is the stuff of the movies exotic, adventurous, and dramatic. Nowhere is this more obvious than at Atlas Studios where you’ll spend an hour guided through its backlots and soundstages. Step after step the sets change from Rome to Jerusalem, China to Egypt.
Skoura
After your tour, it’s a short 1-hour drive east to Skoura, where you’ll have dinner and spend the evening.

Have breakfast at the Riad before checking out and meeting your driver for a day of outdoor adventure. Gone are the farms and fields of the plains of Marrakech as the road travels down into the dusty Valley of Roses (center for rosewater production) with its small villages and earth hewn kasbahs before briefly veering off to see the Todra Gorge
Discover Todra Gorge with Locals - Tourist Information & Experience Center
Your driver will drop you off at the mouth of the gorge and drive ahead to wait on the other side. It’s a quick and easy walk along the narrow paved road next to a small babbling stream, a remnant of the mighty forces that carved the gorge. As you stroll, the 500-foot cliffs tower over you on either side. When you emerge from the gorge, your driver will be waiting and you’ll continue your journey.
Erg Chebbi
In the next 3 hours, the mountains and hills give way to the flat windswept sands as you reach Erg Chebbi, the edge of the Sahara. You’ll check into the Auberge Dunes D’or and have a moment to relax before joining a camel caravan into the dunes to watch the sunset. The camel is a truly gentle giant, swaying softly as you ride into the towering sand dunes lead by a guide. This lifeless brutal environment hides a remarkable beauty. Every minute the sands shift and the colors change as the sun slowly starts to set. Dismount the camels and venture on foot to the top of the dunes and enjoy a front-row seat to one of the most incredible sites in nature. As twilight settles over the desert, you’ll ride your camel back to the Auberge for dinner and evening in the Auberge.

After breakfast and checking out of the Auberge, your driver will take you north, to Fez. As you travel, the desolate rolling dunes of the Sahara slowly drop as you enter the foothills of the mountains.
Midelt
As you travel higher the green of the Middle Atlas Mountains starts to surround you. Forests of cedars accented by gentle streams are a magical site after the desert. Villages that look like they were plucked from the Swiss Alps appear, and (if you’re lucky) a troop of Barbary Apes await as you pass through Midelt before ascending 7 hours later into Fez.
Fez
They say that Marrakech is the beating heart of Morocco, always alive and moving, but Fez is the soul of Morocco. Above the valley, looking down into the Medina, this old city of 200,000 looks dead and lifeless, only springing to life when you enter like spirits arizing from the ether. Hundreds of thousands of people pulsing through the narrow streets with not a vehicle in sight. After a long day of traveling, you’ll check into the Riad el Yacout upon your arrival to Fez. The moment you walk in the door, the luxury embraces you like an old friend. You’ll have dinner and the rest of the evening on your own.

For the next 5 hours, you’ll be taken on a walking tour of the Fez Medina. One of the largest labyrinth cities in the world, the Fez Medina is a riddle waiting to be solved. Its narrow streets and alleys twisting and turning through thousands of years of history. Fez is THE place for shopping for traditional crafts. Around every corner, another market appears. The cacophony of the metalworkers as they hand hammer and carve brass and bronze. The rhythmic ticking of the weavers, the sweet smell of cedar from the woodworkers. And of course, the overpowering aroma of the tannery as they produce the finest Moroccan leather. Your guide will take you to the historical and cultural sites of Fez. Sites of history, culture, and faith lay waiting for your visit. After the tour, the rest of the day is yours.

Located on the Straights of Gibraltar with Europe looming on the horizon only 8 miles away. This busy modern port has been the lynchpin of history for centuries. Home to Phonecians, Romans, and European powers, Tangier became the playground of the rich and famous, authors, artists, and even spies. After checking into the Riad, the afternoon is yours to enjoy on your own. Stroll the streets of White City with lime-coated houses unchanged from the days of Delacroix or Matisse. Stop by the American Legation, the first US Embassy overseas (now a museum), then stroll the high walls of the Kasbah into the alleys of the Grand Socco market. A little farther away, visit the “Sultan’s Palace,” a museum of Moroccan arts. Tangier is also renowned for the Spanish influence on its culture, starting with the arena that stands on the Plaza de Torros and the 1913 Cervantes Theatre.

Lixus
Your journey then turns south for 1 hour before stopping along the way at the Roman ruins of Linxus (the mythological garden of the Hesperides) for a self-guided tour of the city and remains of its coliseum. If you enjoy seafood, we’d recommend a stop or lunch at the village of Larache nearby.
Rabat
Your driver will then take you west for 2 hours to Rabat, the bustling, modern capital of Morocco, where you’ll see the ruins of the Hassan Tower and the magnificent Royal Tombs. Guarded by smartly dressed honor guards, the ornate tombs are the resting place of the current ruling dynasty. If you are thinking about a holiday to Morocco, my sincere advice is to do it with Luiza at Sahara Trek. I cannot rate this company highly enough. They are simply brilliant! From day one of reaching out on email to explore options of Morocco tours, to details of what to see and what to expect for a country we knew little about, Luiza’s communication, professionalism and customer service has been excellent. The tour developed by Sahara Trek has been wonderful. Great locations and quality accommodation that exemplified the character of each location we visited. But above all, the people involved in the holiday package are not only knowledgeable but kind, friendly and go out of their way to make your holiday experience hassle free and memorable. Our driver (Mustafa) in particular, ‘set the bar’ in providing first class customer service in a manner that demonstrated his commitment to his work and the love of his country. Forget the ‘tour group’ option, the customized, private tour from Sahara Trek is the way to go if you looking to explore the beauty and diversity of Morocco at your own pace and through the eyes of its people. 10 out of 10. We planned our trip to Morocco through Sahara Trek and it was perfect. My friend and I, two fifty-something women, had an incredible experience. The country is beautiful, the history is profound, and the people warm and welcoming. Our driver, Karim Akalai stayed with us for our entire trip, 11 days. He was eagerly waiting for us at the airport. His highly engaging personality kept us laughing throughout the journey. We joked that he knew “everyone” throughout the country. He always made sure we had what we needed and was constantly checking to make sure we were doing well. Even on the days that we did not need a driver, he made sure that we met our guides and made it back safely to the Riads. He provided constant tips and information. He connected us to many local people who provided us with additional information. The car was new and clean. Karim ensured that the vehicle was in great condition. He constantly wiped down the inside and outside and provided us with water. The vehicle was cool and had internet. He was always timely, a safe driver and professional. Our tour guide in Marrakesh was Mustapha Karaoui, who was also quite friendly and engaging. His knowledge of both the culture and history was extensive. We toured the Messina with him and gained so much knowledge. He was patient and answered all our questions. He targeted our tour to meet our interests. Marrakesh was exciting and intriguing. Our Riad, Riad Baya, was centrally located, pretty, clean and well kept. In the Todra Gorge, we toured with a local guide named Jaouad Ourhou. He, too, was quite knowledgeable. We went to the Gorge, played with goats, hiked through an oasis, learned to climb palm trees, and ate delicious dates. This area was truly breathtaking, and the rock formations were impressive. He wove figures for us out of the palm leaves. Jaouad was very friendly and provided a good overview of the area. Our hotel, Relais du Nomade, was modern, neat, and provided incredible views of the valley. At breakfast, we sampled their honey which was delicious. Our stay in the Sahara, Merzouga, was so much fun and one of the highlights. The camel ride on the dunes at sunset was a “bucket list” experience. We climbed the sand dunes and coming down felt like skiing. It was so much fun. The glamping village at Auberge du Sud provided perfect accommodations that complimented the landscape and experience. At night, there was a band and dancing by a campfire. Fez was another breathtaking city. The Riad Al Bartal was our favorite accommodation and just beautiful. The tiles, atrium decorations, and doors were truly unique. The food was delicious and dishes were so pretty. Our guide for the city was Mohammed Chahbourne. He, too, provided extensive history of the city and brought us all around the city to the Palace, a lookout of the city, the university, and all over the suq including a pottery coop, carpet coop, leather factory, and various local food vendors. He was warm and personable and helped us better understand the culture. The suq was huge and having a guide certainly helped us to navigate the area. We also enjoyed Essourira and being so close to the ocean. Our climb up Darhakim was interesting and hot and we had the opportunity to meet with local individuals. Atlas Studios was fun and we were able to stage ourselves on many of the sets. Our visit to the Roman city of Volubilis stood in marked contrast from the rest of the sites. Chefchaouen was quaint, pretty and blue and of course, Rabat and Casablanca were big, modern cities. I would highly recommend Sahara Trek. Luiza was highly response and attentive to detail. As stated above, the trip was wonderful. We felt completely safe and did not experience any issues. It was truly a trip to remember!!

Sahara Trek was an amazing company to deal with. Our organiser, Luiza, couldn't do enough to make sure we were happy with our planned trip and that the finer details had been attended to. This all contributed to a very well organised and fun trip. Special shout out to our driver for the week, Karim. He was very caring and we enjoyed having fun with him. Also, the specialist city guides were very knowledgeable and we were super impressed with Morocco and will return!

Our 12 day tour of Morocco was amazing! SaharaTrek helped organise our tour, including driver, local guides, and outstanding accomodation. Communication before and during the tour was excellent - everyone turned up on time, and our driver communicated with our accommodation hosts in advance so they always expected us. Our driver Karim, was kind and helpful, and drove us safely over the 3000km we travelled together. He was great company! Our local guides in Fez and Marrakesh were very helpful and informative, and happy to answer any questions we had. We felt safe at all times. I thoroughly recommend organising your holiday through SaharaTrek.

We were 4 people travelling to Morocco for the first time. I'm so glad we found Sahara Trek. Luiza was invaluable and took out the stress of planning, especially when we were from 2 different countries and 2 different generations travelling. The tour was so comprehensive, was a great first taste of Morocco, and amazing value for money! It was also very flexible and accommodating and Luiza was able to customise parts of the trip for us to suit our schedule and preferences, such as accommodations and even being able to extend our time in Tangier to visit family. It was so great to be able to have Luiza and Fouad 'on-call' just a message away to help us with any queries or trouble shoot some minor situations. Gave us great peace of mind. We're very grateful to our driver, Abderrahmane, who became like family and did what he could every day to make sure we were safe and comfortable. The van was great and the accommodations were incredible! Like a lot of the reviews, the riad in Fez was really something special. But also the cave stay in the Todra Gorge, and the tent in the Sahara I would say were something not to be missed! Most of the staff at all the riads were incredibly accommodating and helpful. Our guides in Marrakesh, Todra Gorge and Fes were so knowledgeable and friendly and assisted the more senior ones in the group as best they could. Probably just a note that the tours and getting to a couple of the riads involve a bit of walking through very narrow streets with bikes that do not necessarily give way, so be aware. Also be aware that June is very hot which may have affected the ability of some in our group to fully participate in some activities, but again, the guides and riads did what they could to make everything comfortable, as well as the van's AC was at times a literal life saver! Morocco is a place like no other and Sahara Trek was such a big part of making our trip as amazing as it was. My family in Tangier said they looked at a few other tours for us and said that we were very lucky to find Sahara Trek as no other private tour they found was as 'complete' and good value for money as this one! So thank you again Sahara Trek!

What an amazing holiday! Thank you Sahara Trek for all the support and help throughout the week. Luiza helped us plan a great trip and was super responsive to any queries, despite being many time zones away. The staff on the ground were incredible. Mestafa, our driver, went out of his way to make everything easy and comfortable for us. Mohammed in Fes was great- such a comprehensive tour. The accommodation was superb- such lovely riads, with Riad Al Bartal in Fez being an absolute knock out. We will definitely recommend Sahara Trek to anyone wanting a very special time in Morocco and hope to have more holidays with your company.

I can’t think of a better way to have visited Morocco than with Sahara Trek. Luiza answered all my queries so quickly- considering we were in completely different time zones I thought that was impressive. We tweaked the Grand Tour to suit us and spent 10 wonderful days, getting to see such a varied landscape from ocean to desert, mountains and oases. Thanks to Mouhssin our driver, so kind and helpful, to all the guides, Aziz in Marrakech, Fouad in Todra Gorge and Mohammed in Fes. Each one was so knowledgeable and made it such a fun day. We did a cooking school in Marrakech and a pottery/mosaic class in Fes. Both great fun. I can’t imagine driving around Morocco on our own - terrifying!! But also seeing all the bus and mini bus tours - not our scene either, so the private tour was absolutely perfect for us. And such great value for money too. Do be aware at Ait Ben Hadou that when you are told to enter over the bridge - make sure you enter over the bridge! We got a bit lost and followed some groups that seemed to be going in a different entry point - we were hassled a lot by people demanding payment for entry and telling us it was a private house. Not a good experience. Also the Atlas Film Studios tour was fairly uninspiring- good for a break on a long driving day, but not much else. If you are not in the market to buy a rug or jewelry etc - do tell your guides, otherwise you will find yourself sitting through presentations that you may not have been expecting. Finally- the accommodation that Luiza booked for us was just beautiful. What an amazing experience getting to stay in Riads. The winner for us Riad Al Bartal in Fes. Gorgeous. Thanks Sahara Trek.

Thanks to Luiza and Sahara Trek for a perfect customized one week tour! We are so glad we booked our trip with them; Luiza was always responsive and she even kept in touch during the trip to make sure everything was to our liking. We appreciated having time with our guides as well as time on our own. Our driver Karim was professional, kind, and always had a smile on his face. Our city guides Aziz and Mohammed were amazing, taking us to the shops and sights, teaching us so many things. The accommodations were always first class. I will recommend Safari Trek without any reservations whatsoever!

Our trip to Morocco using Sahara Trek was simply amazing. Luiza was so helpful in creating a fantastic itinerary, booking beautiful Riads in the best locations for exploring, and organizing tours with guides that were friendly and knowledgeable (shout out to Aziz and Mohammed). Not to mention being so helpful with any questions I had or problem solving when weather would impact planned events. Our driver, Jalal, was equally fantastic, always so responsive, helpful and kind. The itinerary was a perfect balance of structure and free time. I can’t thank everyone at Sahara Trek enough for this experience and would recommend to anyone wanting to visit Morocco!

Me and my friend had a great time in Morocco thanks to SaharaTrek! We only have 11 days, but wanted to visit places suggested in the 12-day Grand Tour plus more!! Luiza provided great suggestions and tips on the itineraries, arranged a great driver Mostafa to take care of us throughout the whole trip, and very knowledgeable guides Aziz and Mohammed in Marrakech and Fes, respectively. In Todra Gorge, instead of my proposed Rim hike, Luiza suggested for the Todra Valley walk given my time constraints which turned out to be a great experience - the Berber guide knows the local area very well and even demonstrated and coached me on how to climb a palm tree per my request which is an added bonus! In general, I feel that Luiza genuinely understands our preferences and needs, and went out of her way to ensure we had a great experience in Morocco during the trip. I have no reservation in recommending SaharaTrek to anyone wanting to visit Morocco!!!
