You will absolutely love San José after this experience. Guided by young biologists you will discover nature hiding in the middle of Costa Rica's largest city. You will get to experience with all your senses, wildlife you wouldn't have imagined existed minutes away from downtown. We are an organization called Oropopo Experience, looking to change the way tourism is done in Costa Rica while supporting young scientists, researchers, and local entrepreneurs.

Additional notes:

** From May to November we recommend booking the morning slot, however, afternoons are also great.

• The only San Jose walking nature tour.

• Explore one of the last green patches inside the city on foot with a local biologist.

• See, smell, taste, touch, and listen to nature.

• Find colorful birds, edible plants, and a wild sloth population on campus.

• A percentage of the earnings goes to Funga Conservation, a non-profit foundation.

• Small-group tour with a maximum of 10 people ensures an intimate experience

We will visit the Campus of the University of Costa Rica, which holds some of the largest patches of forest in the San José Metro Area. On our first stop, we will look for resident and migratory birds, incredible insects and amazing plants and flowers. We'll be talking about art, history, indigenous culture, and most of all, nature. Then, we'll visit the main campus where we will be looking for sloths that live freely and hopefully even see the two different species that inhabit our country. DISCLAIMER: This is not a Recue Center or Sloth Sactuary Tour. You will not be able to touch them, if found, the sloths will be seen in their natural habitat, which means most of the time they will be sleeping on the trees. Still, our experience is your best option at San Jose if you're a true nature lover. This is a 2,5h walking tour, some parts will be exposed to intense sunlight. Not a heavy walk, but please consider your physical condition

A beautiful walk in the Costa Rica Universidad with a great guide, Luis, and a lot of wildlife life! The sloths were the cherry on the cake, and the mother sloth with her baby was just amazing! I recommend not to be missed on your trip to San Jose.

Our guide, Sarah, was engaging and knowledgeable. We were able to see two different types of sloths! We also learned a lot about the plants and birds on the campus.
Nice walk for nature viewing in an urban environment.

Very pleasant walking wildlife seminar. We had the good luck to see four sloths, one of which was (barely) awake along with an abundance of different birds and plants, all ably identified by Raquel, our knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide.

We had a great tour with a dedicated and knowledgeable guide. We sae three sloths and thanks to the telescope we were able to observe them really well and also take pictures. I found it really worth it!

I participated this afternoon, and truly enjoyed the experience. Raquel, our biologist guide, was very knowledge about all the animals and trees that we observed, and her enthusiasm for and respect of nature were infectious. Our group lucked out in that we saw five sloths, including one two-toed sloth that’s rarely seen. Tips: Wear comfortable walking clothes, bring binoculars, and have a meal at the meeting point, Ondina Cafe and Restaurant.

This was an excellent tour with a very pleasant, knowledgeable guide, a student of the university. Sorry I forgot his name. We saw several birds, spiders and 5 sloths, one of which was very active, climbing quite close to us. But it was the additional information he gave which made the tour special. We were staying in the centre of San Jose and a taxi cost us $6 each way. We also ate at the meeting cafe, that was good too.

The tour was awesome. Saw multiple sloths, even one with a baby. The guide (Maria??) was super informative and helpful. She even walked us back to a familiar location after the tour was over. Would recommend it to everyone.
