Our guide will accompany you to discover the oldest and most fascinating area of the city of Matera: the historic Rioni Sassi. Along this pleasant walk, which winds through the alleys and panoramic views of Sasso Caveoso and Sasso Barisano, there are many stops for historical, architectural and cultural insights. In particular, it will be possible to visit a 12th century rock church from the inside, one of the most representative carved into the rock, both for its still recognizable architectural structure and for the excellent state of conservation of the period wall paintings medieval.

Great small group walking tour that covered a wide range of the history of the Sassi with a very interesting isn’t to an ancient cave church with lovely frescos. Giorgio, our guide was amazing!

Highly recommend this walking tour. I did it with my husband and 16 year old son who wasn’t very keen on the idea - but we all loved it, even the grumpy teenager! Our guide got it just right, a nice mix of humour and really interesting history and facts - he even shared his own experiences of playing in the Sassi as a teenager in the 90s which really captured my son’s imagination. Great fun, a natural guide and the highlight of our trip to Sassi for me!
