This magnificent Lion was originally located on the top of the Great Tomb at Amphipolis and at some time in the past was moved to its current location, several km. away from the Tomb site.

The ancient city of Philippi was found by Alexander's the Great father, where we shall visit the Basilica, the theatre, the Roman Forum, the cell where Apostle Paul was imprisoned but also the Octagon Church- the first Chirstian church of Europe.

5.00A great journey through history. Fie excavations in Filippi are worth seeing. Our driver and guide Ionnis was able to tell us many exciting details about all points of the visit. Really intetessant and highly recommended.

2.00Wee were very disappointed in this tour. This tour normally originates from Thessaloniki. Our cruise docked at Kavala, and we requested that we be picked up there. The tour company accommodated us. This tour stipulates that normally it is a six hour tour, and two if those hours is driving to and from Kavala. We assumed, perhaps wrongly, that the driver would be knowledgeable about the area and what we were going to see, and engage in some conversation but that was not to be. While he could speak English, he was just a driver. When we got to the sites, he was really not well informed. Perhaps we were nieve, but thought we would get some one knowledgable about what we were seeing. It was very disappointing. When we called the tour representative, and complained, we were told that if we wanted a certified guide it would be extra. When I asked how that could be set up, there was no answer. Nothing on the site differentiated between just having a driver and having someone who could give us an explanation about what we were seeing. There is no way to arrange for a certufied guide on the web site. Spent a lot of money for a taxi driver. Very disappointed.
