In the Hongkou district, you will visit various places including the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum (Ohel Moshe Synagogue) and a monument in Huoshan Park. In addition, your guide will take you to explore the back lanes of the district and to visit a Chinese home where Jewish refugees used to live. Over the course of the tour, your guide will discuss the cultural and commercial contribution of the Russian Jewish immigration at the turn of the century and the Jewish experience in Shanghai under the Japanese occupation during WWII. We wanted to learn about the history of the Jews of Shanghai and could not have happier our choice of Dvir as our guide. The man is so well versed in this subject and presents his tours in a friendly and well researched manner making the experience enjoyable as well as informative and easy to understand. During the tour we stopped at numerous places of Jewish interest including the former ghetto where refugees from Europe lived and learning of the hardship of their existence. During the tour we stopped at the Jewish Museum which we found really fascinating and the nearby synagogue sadly now rarely used. We would not hesitate in recommending this company for a Jewish tour when visiting Shanghai we were left with memories that will be with us for a very long time and we are sure you will come away very happy with your choice of tour.

This tour was excellent in every way. Dvir was knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. The day moved seamlessly from one stop to the next both walking and using minivans. This day was a highlight of our visit to China. I would have preferred to be able to spend more time at the museum since the displays are very dense with information. Overall a moving experience.

Dvir Bar-Gal was a most knowledgeable guide. We learned so much about the Jewish history in Shanghai. We knew about the WWII community, but did not know anything about the 2 prior migrations of Jews that came from Iraq and Russia. The gravestone project, shown in the video, was so interesting and compelling. I wish we had had more time in the Jewish Museum - we were rushed and did not get to really experience the exhibits. Only other suggestion is for Dvir to speak more slowly. He has so much information to share - it's hard to absorb it all because he speaks very fast. Wonderful tour all in all - highly recommend it.

This was one of the very best tours that we have ever taken in 40 years of traveling. Dvir made the whole Jewish experience in Shanghai come alive. It is described as a walking tour, but in reality he arranged for us to sit periodically for extended explanations. There are also vans to transport the group over the longer distances. Whether you are Jewish or not - do not miss this tour

The tour was led by Dvir. He explained the history of the Jews in Shanghai so vividly and interestingly that they were completely captivated. The story began as early as the 1830s and showed how the Jews helped shape the cityscape of Shanghai from an early age. The tour not only focused on the time of the 2nd century. World War II restricted and also shown much about people's daily lives. Definitely an asset to my knowledge of history. Exciting and informative at the same time. And definitely not boring. Everyone should have done it. Thanks for the detailed introduction to this part of the story.
