Udawalawe is a small town located in the southern part of the Ratnapura District in Sri Lanka. It is situated in close to the district's boundary with the Hambantota District and Monaragala District.
The Udawalawe National Park is a wildlife reserve covering nearly 120 square miles of land with a number of geological formations. Established on the 30th of June 1972, the park lies on the boundary of the Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces of Sri Lanka. As such, it majorly consists of plains, grasslands, forests and marshes - while being bounded by soaring mountains along the northern border. A major river, the Walawe and a many of its tributaries run pass through the park, providing ample water for the wildlife. The annual rainfall in the Udawalawe National Park is around 1500 millimeters, and the average temperature stays at a comfortable 27° - 28° Centigrade (81°-82°F). The park has over 94 species of plants, 21 species of fish, 12 species of amphibians, over 30 species of reptiles, over 180 species of birds (33 of which are migratory), 43 species of mammals and 135 species of butterflies.

5.00We used Lahiru Prasad for a private tour for my wife, 3 year old daughter and me. Really knowledgable and a great experience. He ensured he collected us early to beat the rush of trucks so that we were at the front of the queue upon opening, then took the less travelled tracks. We saw eagles, warthogs, deer, elephant, numerous bird species and crocodiles. Highly recommended. +94714836490 for his whatsapp. We booked before leaving the UK.

5.00An unforgettable safari in Udawalawe National Park in Sri Lanka was one of the highlights of our trip! Huge thanks to our guide, Lahiru Prasad — he is truly passionate and incredibly knowledgeable about the park and its wildlife. You can immediately see how much he loves animals and his work; it comes through in every comment and in the way he treats nature with such care and respect. In just two hours, we saw around 20 elephants in their natural habitat, as well as a turtle, crocodiles, peacocks, a pelican, a large lizard, many beautiful birds, and even an eagle. Thanks to Lahiru’s sharp eye, he spotted even the smallest birds and always pointed out where to look so we wouldn’t miss anything. Thank you for such a wonderful safari — this memory will stay with us for many years. I highly recommend Lahiru Prasad to anyone who wants to experience Udawalawe for real!

Lahiru avoided the crowds and took us on a wonderful adventure deep into the park, at times it felt like we were the only ones there. 5.00We did a full-day safari, and it was an absolutely amazing experience! Thanks to our guide Lahiru, we were able to see a wide variety of animals, including elephants, crocodiles, water buffalo, peacocks, and many more. Lahiru always seemed to know exactly where to find the animals, which made the experience even more special. Throughout the tour, he shared a lot of interesting and detailed information about the national park and the wildlife. What really stood out was his patience — he always gave us plenty of time to observe the animals peacefully and often waited until other jeeps had left, so we could truly enjoy the moment in a calm and relaxed atmosphere. Another highlight was the delicious breakfast and lunch that Lahiru Praprepared for us — everything was perfectly organized and very tasty! We were absolutely thrilled and extremely satisfied. 5.00We booked an Elephant Safari in Uduwalawe National Park with Lahiru Prasad (+94 76 272 6799) and highly recommend it! We were prepared to see only one or two elephants at a distance, or perhaps even none, but because our guide Lahiru and the driver made such a brilliant team we saw almost 20 elephants! Many of them right next to our jeep. They also found us jackals, baby mongoose, crocs and all manner of beautiful birds. And their humour, expertise and friendly attitude made the day absolutely perfect. Lahiru also helped us arrange our onwards travel which was greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lahiru!

5.00Amazing experience with local guide lahiru Prasad I went on a safari tour of Udawalawe National Park with lahiru . He was incredibly friendly and knowledgable about the park. We booked the day before and the communication was excellent. Lahiru arrived on time to pick us up in a very comfortable jeep in the morning from our hotel. He showed us around and gave us many facts about the animals, birds and insects. We saw crocodiles, Elephants, peacocks, lots of different types of birds, water buffalo, deer. 5.00We just got back from our safari with Shameera in Uduwalawe national park, which was an amazing experience. We have seen many elephants, buffalo, mongoose, deer, eagles, peacocks, crocodiles and many different birds. Shameera was able to inform our group about the different animals in both English and German. I highly recommend a tour with Shameera (can be booked through WhatsApp- 0764810350)
