The balsa river is the best white water rafting choice in the northern area of Costa Rica this great class 3 &4 on the upper part,

Balsa River for an adventure you won’t forget anytime soon! Stop along the way to rest a bit, do a little swimming, and enjoy some fresh Costa Rica fruit. After white water rafting, you will get a clean towel and a water bottle, and we’ll take you to a local restaurant to have a Costa Rica style lunch

Daily tours leave at 08:30 am from La Fortuna for our Class IV White Water Rafting Adventure on the Balsa  River and includes round trip transportation from local La Fortuna hotels, all equipment, guides, fruit on the river, towels, water, & costarican lunch. We come back to La Fortuna town at 13:30.

This tour is appropriate for anyone with 12 years and older.

What To Expect

Arenal Rafting’s Class IV adrenaline-packed white water rafting adventure is a thrilling rafting experience within the Costa Rican rainforest.  For those in good physical condition, we’ll take you for a 15-kilometer ride down the river you won’t forget anytime soon!  Stop along the way to rest a bit, do a little swimming, and enjoy some fresh Costa Rica fruit.  After white water rafting, we’ll take you to a local restaurant to have a Costa Rica style lunch. Daily tours leave at 9:00 am from La Fortuna for our Class IV White Water Rafting Adventure and include roundtrip transportation from local La Fortuna hotels, all equipment, guides, fruit on the river, towels & local lunch. This tour is appropriate for anyone 12 years and older.

    I had never been white water rafting but wanted excitement with a sense of being in safe hands. This was off the scale on both counts. The staff who looked after us were so welcoming and could not have done more. They seemed genuinely joyful about us being there to share the beauty, abundance and wonders of the Rio Balsa. We were briefed on the 45 min coach transfer and made every effort to build us up for a totally thrilling experience. These guys are top class - and words can’t capture the respect they gained as we watched them put their lives on the line for anyone who went overboard (thankfully not with our raft). The 2 children in our group of 6 were able to have fun and our guide Rupper was kept busy navigating through some crazy rapids and diving towards the kids when things got hairy. The fruit stop was another example of service, perfection and joy. Respect for nature and sharing goodness was on display. The time in the river was so good - then the return to La Fortuna meant more amazing food, opportunity to see and purchase great photos (very reasonable price) of our adventure and part with stories to tell.

    Do not miss this! What a great experience. Our guide Elvis was awesome. Super chill, very funny and kept us in the raft but gave us a ton of thrills. The fruit break was a nice touch and having lunch provided at the end was a perfect way to close it out. Well worth it!

    Fun adventure with a great guide. He did a great job of navigating the river but also hit the rapids well so it was a fun ride. He was so helpful to everyone on board and told us about the culture and rivers. We had a blast and this was a highlight of our tour to Costa Rica.

    This is a must do when visiting Arenal/La Fortuna. It is so well organized, and we loved every minute on the river. It was pretty wild, but the guides are amazing. We had Braulio, and he was the best. He kept us on our toes and kept us laughing all day. The meal at the end is so good. Highly recommend. We also opted to be picked up and dropped off which we were glad we did.

    We love this river rafting experience, Victor took great care of my family as we went down the river. The fruit break in the middle was a lot of fun as well. I highly recommend.
