This tourist excursion will take you to discover some of the most iconic places in the Basque Country. We will begin by visiting the Bizkaia Bridge, an engineering marvel and UNESCO World Heritage site, connecting Portugalete and Getxo.
Next, we will head to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, an impressive islet known for its natural beauty and the hermitage at the top. The site is famous for its appearance in the "Game of Thrones" series and offers spectacular views of the Basque coastline.
The excursion will continue in Bermeo, a picturesque fishing village with charming streets and a lively harbor.
Finally, we will visit Gernika, a town rich in history, famous for being the place where the laws of Bizkaia were signed. At the Casa de Juntas, visitors will learn about the historical rights of the Basque people, and the Tree of Gernika symbolizes freedom and unity for the Basques.

Due to space capacity limitations and political or public happenings, the Casa de Juntas of Gernika might not be available to enter and we will see the tree of Gernika from outside. Therefore, the entrance to the Casa de Juntas inside the building is not guaranteed.

Puente Colgante Vizcaya
The Bizkaia Bridge, is an impressive engineering feat and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Connecting the towns of Portugalete and Getxo in the province of Bizkaia, this bridge is famous for its unique metal structure, which includes a suspended platform for the passage of ships. Inaugurated in 1893, the Bizkaia Bridge is one of the world’s first transshipment bridges and one of the main tourist attractions in the region. San Juan de Gaztelugatxe
During the visit, we will enjoy stunning views of the Bay of Biscay and the Basque coastline. The site is known for its natural beauty and its great historical and cultural value. Additionally, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe gained international fame after being used as a filming location in the series "Game of Thrones," where it represented "Dragonstone." It’s a unique experience for both nature lovers and those interested in history and culture. There is no time in this excursion to visit on foot the hermit.

5.00Absolutely incredible view! 45 m above the river. A little scary but well worth the "effort". Incredible building construction. The gondola was also amazing.

5.00Fantastic visit for the whole family. My son loves the suspension bridge, especially learning how it works, he learns a lot and we enjoy seeing how he is interested in engineering works near our house. My son has a bomb, he wants to cross the bridge just to see it working.

5.00Very interesting and historic bridge (read Wikipedia about it) in a beautiful setting. You can sit and watch the hanging car go back and forth, avoiding any passing ships.

5.00Everything was as expected from an organisational perspective: we were picked-up on time and driven to the different sights in a confortable minivan according to the schedule. The group was pretty small which was nice to socialise a bit on the way and meant there was no time wasting as managing everyone was easy for the guide. The guide was friendly, spoke good English, and gave us good background information about the various sights. We were overall very satisfied with the tour as we had limited time in Bilbao and it allowed us to get an overview of many sights in the surrounding areas. Lastly, do note that it is somewhat of an express tour with limited time at each location. This was neither a surprise nor an issue to us as the tour schedule was clear and accurate, and seeing those places within a limited timeframe is what we were looking for. Just pointing out you should review the schedule and make sure the timing suits you before booking.

5.00This is such a fascinating, unusual bridge. You can pay €10 for the loft to take you across or pay €3 for the ‘ferry’. We did the latter. It was really interesting and there are nice paths to walk along the riverfront.

5.00After visiting Portugalete and Santurtzi, both very beautiful, I decided to take this transport, ferry? to see Getxo. For only €0.50 you cross the estuary on one of the two sides for people available, and with the cars stored in the middle of the gondola, as a lot of road traffic crosses it. It's fast and very frequent, and you barely even realize you're moving, so there's almost no waiting. For the more intrepid, for just over €9 you can walk across the top.

4.00We took the excellent Metro train service from Bilbao to Portugalete and then it is a short downhill walk to the Viscaya Bridge . We wanted to walk across the top and purchased our €9.50 pp tickets from the friendly staff in the souvenir shop. The ride up in the elevator was fine and the accompanying member of staff informed us of the height and length of the bridge. I’m not good with heights but felt fine walking across the bridge and the views were well worth the admission free. The surrounding area of Getaxo is also worth exploring and walking along the coast to the beach. This is another must when visiting Bilbao

5.00It is the oldest transporter bridge in the world and connects the towns of Portugalete and Getxo. It transports both people and vehicles from one bank to the other with a fairly continuous frequency. Even from afar, that suspended cabin that goes back and forth from one bank to the other attracts the eye; The grandeur of the metal structure also attracts curiosity, both on the two banks, with large steel tie rods, and across the river, for a length of approximately 164 metres. It is certainly an engineering work from another era, as well as a top-level tourist attraction, already a UNESCO heritage site. The suspended cabin or spacecraft consists of a central lane, on which the vehicles are positioned and two closed side compartments with windows, intended for the transport of people (cost €0.50/person). What can I say, crossing the Nervion river, via the Colgante bridge, was a simple but beautiful experience.
