Look inside the vast white wounds that open up on the wild slopes of Carrara, and learn how the quarries have provided marble to towns and cities across Italy for more than 2,000 years. Hear about the sweat of the men who mined the marble used to build the Pantheon and Trajan's Column in Ancient Rome, along with many sculptures of the Renaissance.
On your way back home, you are invited to go by your own means to taste a sample of the famous Lardo di Colonnata IGP, guide will give you the indication of the place to go.

Stadio dei Marmi
Meeting point in the Stadio dei Marmi area in Carrara, meeting with the guide, and start of the tour. From here we begin the ascent among the vineyards of the green Candia Hills (famous for giving birth to a fine and original tasting Wine) along a route between the sea and the imposing Apuan Alps that is truly spectacular. We continue along an up-and-down dirt section until we find the asphalt road again, which leads directly into the heart of the Carrara Marble Quarries.

Explore the most precious of Carrara's treasures: the white marble quarries. Aboard comfortable and powerful 4×4 jeeps, our guide will take you over the peaks of the Apuan Alps. Up to the marble basins at an altitude of 1,000 meters, to discover the magical place where Michelangelo found the block that gave birth to his world-famous Pieta.

5.00This was an amazing tour with a personable and enthusiastic guide providing just enough history, facts and story blended in a unique and safe package. He managed to support a tour with 4 adults and 2 young children under 5. Well done!

Impressive views but expensive for a very short jeep ride

3.00The view of the quarry was impressive, however the drive in the jeep was a very short trip up the road and back, with one stop overlooking the quarry where the guide gave us an informative talk about the quarries history and techniques of marble extraction. We didn't access any quarries or see anything up close, but just drove the short journey back to the car park.

5.00We all loved this experience, adults and children alike. The visit and all the explanations given by our guides were super interesting, little more: one of the guides speaks French which was very appreciated by the whole family. I recommend!!!

5.00Start to finish this was a fantastic experience. Luca was our driver/host of the group and did great explaining in both English and Italian. Fielded a million questions and was very knowledgeable and personable. The mine was was awesome as well as the views from top out to the sea. Highly recommend.

4.00Did what it says on the tin ! Great seeing the quarries - very interesting - driver underwhelming - little engagement with 3 couples in Land Rover - apart from Telling us general facts as if he was going through the motions . Guide in another car who spoke to participants from all The 3 vehicles Participating at each of the stops was knowledgeable and informative. A enjoyable afternoon . Vehicles themselves were pretty basic and old and tired

5.00Thank you so much for this brilliant tour of the quarries in Carrara. I’d wanted to visit the quarries after seeing them on screen in the film The Brutalist, and am so pleased I was able to do this tour. The tour was easy to book online and all of the instructions for finding the tour meeting place were clear and easy to follow. The locations of the tour are fascinating and very worthwhile. Our tour guide and driver, Luca, drove us into the mountains, where we saw some amazing views and had plenty of opportunities to take photos. We also visited a beautiful marble souvenir shop and were able to taste a local speciality - lardo - from a nearby town, Colonnata. We were also able to go inside a quarry, which was the highlight of the experience for me. Our driver and guide Luca was very kind, knowledgeable and professional. He made every effort to feel everyone on the tour included and comfortable, speaking both in Italian and English to ensure all the tour attendees (some Italian-speaking and some English-speaking) were able to enjoy the tour. Unfortunately I left my mobile phone in the Land Rover where the tour was taking place after it ended. Luca was incredibly helpful and communicative when I contacted him to mention I had left my phone in the Land Rover. Thanks to Luca’s amazing help, as he arranged for my phone to be couriered from Italy to the U.K., where I live, I am now reunited with it. I can’t thank him enough for his quick thinking, kindness and help with sending my phone back. Grazie mille!
