Built between the 14th and 15th centuries, this impressive and famous temple is known for having the biggest stupa in the city. Besides its towering chedi, Wat Chedi Luang was also once the home of the Emerald Buddha that is now housed in Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok. Get to see the sprawling compound and striking Lanna-style design up close!

Compared to Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Phan Tao will seem quite humble in size. However, don’t let its size fool you! This small temple is made out of intricately carved teak wood. It was also once a throne hall for King Mahotara Prateth before becoming a dedicated house of prayer.

It doesn't pay off, unless you want to know the whole story by bringing the temples. Hard to find the guide.

Guide was very knowledgeable and explained a lot about the city and culture. The temples were very cool to see. It was pretty hot outside so she would stop in the shade to talk, so that was nice.

Such an awesome tour. My guide knew any and everything about all the temples! It was amazing to learn about all the history behind every place we visited cuz I am a history buff.

This was the best tour I've ever had due to the guide, fabulous Mr. Boon! He went out of his way to explain everything-history, religion, culture... No question went unanswered, and we had many. It was a small group, as advertised, and Mr Boon gave us plenty of time to explore, take photos and enjoy the beauty of our surroundings. The tour was supposed to be 3 hours but Mr. Boon was kind and spent 4 1/2 hours with our group. Priceless experience!

The guide, Khun Nana, was really knowledgeable and conducted the tour in a fun and informative way. I learned so much about the local culture and history, including great tips as to where to eat and get a massage in the city - places where locals go and not just tourists. The short 3 hour tour is a great start to a Chiang Mai adventure. It gives you the perfect basics so that you can either continue to explore by yourself or know which other tours you might want to add during your stay. Really loved Khun Nana as my guide and would book a tour with her again in a heartbeat.
