Enjoy local Japanese food and nightlife in Shinjuku, Tokyo. On this tour, you can experience Japanese izakaya culture while bar hopping deep into Shinjuku Golden Gai with your guide. Visit spots that are difficult for tourists to enter whilst interacting with locals over some drinks.
Start with a meal at a restaurant to enjoy some classic downtown gourmet dishes such as monjayaki and okonomiyaki along with other izakaya menu items. After filling your stomach, head to Shinjuku Golden Gai. With over 300 bars, finding the right one may be challenging. Our tour will take you to two famous bars owned by local legends. 5.00Literal Hidden Bar Experience! I joined this bar-hopping tour with my American friends, and they absolutely loved it! I don’t usually drink much, so it’s always a bit tricky when friends say they want to check out Golden Gai. But this was the perfect experience for all of us. As a Japanese person, I first thought it was a bit unusual to start with okonomiyaki or monjayaki before bar hopping since it’s not really related to bars — but actually, it turned out great for me too (especially as someone who doesn’t drink much, haha). Our guide, Aimy, was so cheerful and fun! My friends adored her. We got to chat with bar owners, staff, and even some locals it felt so warm and authentic. I’m really glad I joined this tour and could give my friends a genuine taste of Japan’s nightlife!

5.00I was invited by my British friend to join this bar-hopping tour in Golden Gai! Even though I was born and raised in Japan, I’d never really hopped around Golden Gai before. I was nervous and never sure where to go, even though I was always so interested. Basically, I’m a pretty shy person 😅 This experience turned out to be amazing. At first, eating okonomiyaki / monjayaki felt a bit random for a bar-hopping night, but after chatting with the guide and sharing that teppan moment, I realized it’s actually an important part of the itinerary and overall process. As for the bars themselves, I won’t mention any names it felt like a bit of a secret! But honestly, I don’t think I could have gone on my own. Not just because I’m shy, but because it would be hard to find these spots, and I wouldn’t know whether ichigen-san (first-time visitors without an introduction) would be welcomed or not. The owners, the atmosphere, drinks and food everything was so good. I was happily surprised to see how friendly the local regulars were too!! I’m sure I couldn’t have had the same high-quality experience if I’d simply worked up the courage and gone by myself, haha.

We also learnt a lot about Japanese cuisine and dining while having great fun, and I really enjoyed the appetizer that we had at the Monja yaki and bar!
