Now that I’m safely out of the country, I am trying to initiate a refund request for everything that I paid for this trip. It was, by far, the worst trip I have ever been on, and I’ve seen almost the entire world. The tour agency (Shine Zuuch Travel) and its guide (Rica) exhibited behavior that I didn’t believe possible. One of the three yurt camps they put me in (Gobiin Tugul) was totally unsanitary. I was sick at the time, with fever and diarrhea, and the camp had neither toilet paper nor soap in the bathroom. When I complained to my guide, he got angry and threatened to leave me there if I did not write his company an excellent review. I refused and told him there would be repercussions if he did, and he eventually backed down. He also got angry because I asked him to slow down as the bumps in the road were making my nausea worse. On top of that, his car broke three times in the desert (tires and suspension), but fortunately, he was able to fix it. And when we arrived back in the capital, his boss met us at a market and he said we would not go any farther unless I wrote them an excellent review. When I refused again, he began screaming at me in Mongolian. I held my position, and they eventually agreed to drop me off at a hotel of my choice, where I made other arrangements to leave Mongolia. I have to add that one of their other guides, who was fluent in Japanese, seemed much more empathetic, but he was with another tourist and I didn’t benefit from his kindness I also intend to file a complaint with the Mongolian Department of Tourism.

This was the worst trip I have ever been on, and I only gave it a star because that was the minimum allowed. Now that I’m safely in Hong Kong, I will try to initiate a refund request for everything that I paid for this trip. One of the three places they put me in was totally unsanitary and not hygienic. I was sick at the time, with fever and diarrhea, and it had no toilet paper or soap in the bathroom. When I complained to my guide, he threatened to leave me there if I did not write his company an excellent review. I refused and told him there would be repercussions if he did, so he eventually backed down. When I didn’t back down, they eventually agreed to drop me off at a hotel of my choice, where I made other arrangements to leave Mongolia. What I don’t get back from Viator, I intend to dispute with my credit card company, and I also intend to file a complaint with the the Mongolian Department of Tourism. The people of Mongolia are generally very friendly and it was a pleasure to meet them, but I would avoid SHINE ZUUCH TRAVEL and it’s guide, Rica, like the plague.
