Isola di Murano
Enjoy a Glass-Blowing Workshop In times of yore, the glassblowers of Murano Island held an exclusive mastery over mirror creation in all of Europe. Their expertise was so esteemed that they were forbidden from departing from Venice, under the threat of execution. Although the artisans are now free to travel, their craft has persevered, and you will witness its essence first-hand at our initial destination—an authentic glassblower's workshop. Observe a true craftsman in action, engrossed in his daily affairs, while simultaneously listening to an English narration describing the intricate process. What imparts the glass with its vibrant hues? How does silica sand transform into the delicate artistry of glass? Which aspect of his occupation poses the greatest challenge? This is an actual working studio, ensuring an unparalleled and genuine experience. Subsequently, you have the opportunity to peruse an extensive collection of glass art and leisurely explore on your own for a while.

The tour was fun and informative. Nicola was great and she shared so much of the Venetian History!! The glass making in Murano is exquisite. So much skill and time involved to make magnificent pieces! Burano was equally impressive and learning about the lacemaking history was a wonderful tribute to this art and skill, especially knowing that it may be extinct in a short time. My only negative is that we would have loved to have had more time at both places.

I went with 3 teenagers. The meeting point was clear, although the flag that says 'The Tour Guy' is pretty small so keep your eyes peeled! There are 22 people in a group. Our guide, Christina, was very nice. Murano was okay, but really was a tour of a showroom of very expensive glass which is well beyond the financial reach of daytrippers like myself. Although the guides tell you there is the option to go outside of the showroom and explore more of the island, there really isn't enough time. Burano was really beautiful and we would all have loved some more time there. Overall a nice thing to have done.

Our guide Francesca was excellent. Very knowledgeable and helpful. She knew a great deal of history about the area, and her English was fantastic! The trip was about 4hours long and money well spent. We got to see the glass making, and the beautiful village of Burano. I could have spent more time in Burano - but it was an excellent half day. I, however, feel extremely guilty about not having a tip for her and our boat driver. We live in Sweden, where tipping is not really done, and we are more or less paperless over here - so it didn´t occur to us to bring cash for a tip. I am so sorry about that!

Fun side trip if you have extra time while in Venice. Guide was on time, very nice and helpful. Murano glass shop had beautiful products, but Burano was more interesting with more to see and take in. Boat motor was loud so made it difficult to hear the guide at times.
