• Tour guide experience in Istanbul

  Last weekend I had a chance to visit Istanbul for the second time. To make my experience more unique, I decided to use the service of full supervision of a Turkish guide Sarp Kubilay. In order for me to get an authentic immersion, Sarp made sure I was looked after all the time. I had no need of being aware of my surroundings due to Sarp accompanying me all the time and helping getting around Istanbul. My trip had started with visiting famous Beşiktaş in the morning, looking at the famous stadium and eagle monument that is a symbol of Beşiktaş football team. And then we proceed to have proper Turkish breakfast (another advantage of having a local guide was not needing to fight off inviting waiters on the street, as they were speaking only in Turkish to Sarp 😎) On that evening we have also been to a lovely authentic small Turkish restaurant with an amazing vibe (good choice) and had dinner with two Sarp’s friends (paid actors) drank raki and had the best traditional mezze. (I must admit, the friends were very funny, highly recommended adding that to your itinerary) On the second day we took a vapour to Kadikoy that is famous with its lovely cafes and artsy people. (To blend in, Sarp wore a stylish outfit and rings!!!). Also, we met with another Sarp’s friend. Who was also very stylish and fun! Perfectly fitting in with Kadikoy. In the evening we went to a local open mic stand up show. The first performer was a disaster and I wanted to leave, however it got better. I also realised that Sarp is a “pick me turk” trying to act all different and better than others, but it’s alright, it’s a part of his role anyway. Back in the hotel, I offered to go on a little walk with hotel slippers and pj, to test Sarp’s limits, where he once again proved himself. The evening was filled with long, joyful conversations, singing along famous songs of TAK TAK TAK and ASKIM COK PARDON, learning about underlining words using a sentence structure in Turkish and learning about how to form a present continuous; wrestling, having hot showerS, laughing all night, having an eye opening experience and much more… On the last day we visited Karakoy, had the best baklava from “gulluoglu”, walked around and had some lovely conversations. I found mine using service Hinge.uk, it’s a very rare find, and you have to be very picky in order to get a good one. (Friendly advice, I recommend you to avoid looking for one in Germany) In overall, I highly recommend getting a local guide. But find YOUR OWN ONE ! Cuz Sarp Kubilay is MINE FOREVER and is going to be used for further trips and research.

  This guide was extremely easy to use. Delivery was immediate and customer follow up was perfect. It's an interactive guide that allows you to click on sights, experiences, restaurants, cafes, etcetera. I loved how convenient it was to have on my phone while exploring Istanbul.   We had the tour with Dilara, everything was very interesting, she is super friendly and patient with everyone. The recommendations we were given were excellent, we tried food that we would not have eaten otherwise. you have to come with mindset to try new food and flavors. We were recommended and would definitely recommend it.

  If you have any desire to try local and traditional dishes, we highly recommend the Taste of Istanbul tour. In fact, do it early on your trip and you'll be prepared to identify and order off any restaurant menu without unwanted surprises. We tried a dozen different food, drinks, and desserts over the course of several hours while walking through many colorful neighborhoods. Our guide explained each dish we tried - in great English and he covered not only the ingredients in each but the importance of each one. He helped us order and found us seats to sit together to create a truly unique experience. We went home nourished at many levels.
