The guide will first explain the origin, history, rules, fun, etc. of sumo.

Sumo wrestlers are working extremely hard to be stronger because their ranking directly affects their income. The morning practice starts before 7:00 a.m. with stretching, warming-up, and a routine of basic sumo movements. We get into the stable around 8:00 a.m. when they start practice matches. You will be overwhelmed by the sounds as you watch wrestlers hit their bodies head-on again and again. By this time, you will realize a huge mass of muscles constitute their bodies. When they stretch to cool down, you are now surprised to see how supple they are, which may be counter-intuitive given their gigantic bodies.

We will take photos with them after the practice.

We had an amazing viewing this morning with our guide and interpreter. Jeff-san has incredible insight into the history and practice of sumo and it was fascinating talking to him before and after the viewing. Watching the morning practice itself was a truly unforgettable experience and we would highly recommend for anyone interested in Japanese culture, history or sport.

Sue our guide was very knowledgeable!!! We loved her ability to explain sumo to our group. Watching the sumo practice and knowing what Sue taught us before was super helpful. Also Sue wrote us notes during to explain things. (You are to be quiet while inside the stable). This was real sumo, they worked hard! Would recommend this 💯!

I wasn't sure what to expect, but Jeff our tour guide gave my husband and I a history of Sumo. Which was really detailed and interesting. Jeff certainly knows his stuff! We had great communication about the event and where to meet. There weren't many people viewing the practice so we had good views. If you're visiting I recommend this tour.

Taka was a great tour guide and it was an overall great experience especially since it can be so difficult or expensive to book tickets to an actual sumo match. Be prepared to sit on cushions on the floor for a long time. There is also no talking during the training so you just observe the sumo wrestlers as they go through their exercises

Had a great time with Aki Kotao as our tour guide for the sumo practice morning tour. She took us to Naruto Sumo Stable, and it was fantastic to watch them train and learn about their common practices and routines. Highly recommend!

This was a great way to see the sumo wrestlers. You are very close up and get to see them practice and compete with each other for 2-3 hours. Our tour guide, Dawn, was great and extremely knowledgeable of the sport of sumo wrestling.
