  We were picked up at 3a and driven 1h15m to the base of the mountain. We then got in the jeeps and were off roading up a very bumpy road for about 20 mins to the middle of the mountain to then be there with hundreds of other jeeps/people. We were given a breakfast of banana sandwich, fruit, boiled egg, candy bar, and a warm drink(coffee, tea, or hot cocoa). You get to the viewpoint at 4:45a, so you’re waiting 1h30m for the sunrise. It is very windy and higher elevation, so dress accordingly. While you’re waiting for sunrise, several locals came up essentially begging us to buy their stuff(bracelets, candy, drinks, art,etc) for crazy amounts. They stay there basically insisting you buy something, saying they have no money. After sunrise, you’re then driven down the mountain and to a nearby lava field, where you are again met with locals trying to sell you things. Our driver, who was great and was happy to take our pictures, then asked us to write a good review with his name to show this boss. If you look at other reviews, this is what most of the reviews are, because I saw other drivers asking the same. Once back at the starting point, the original driver took us to a hot spring, which was essentially a big swimming pool. We were given a towel, locker, and welcome drink(papaya juice or water), and we stayed there for 1h30m. We then went to a coffee farm where you get a free coffee, tea, and chocolate tasting before you’re then taken to the shop where you are basically supposed to buy something. The prices were insane in the shop, which a bar of chocolate costing 140,000IDR. Overall, I really loved the sunrise, but it basically seemed like a tourist trap otherwise to get you to buy things you didn’t want.

  We got picked up at 3am for our trip. Very early but absolutely amazing experience. Spectacular views worth every penny Our jeep driver Komang was absolutely brilliant and made our experience what it was

  Unforgettable experience! The sunset was stunning. Our 4x4 driver Tapa was great, he was really friendly with excellent photography skills. Highly recommend this excursion and Tapa.

  The tour to Mount Batur was good, and our guide, Agu, was absolutely wonderful. She was full of energy and consistently checked in to ensure we were okay. This review is no reflection on her efforts. However, there were aspects of the experience that left us disappointed. We were supposed to spend 2 hours at the hot springs, but the driver only allowed us an hour and then took us to a coffee plantation that wasn’t part of the itinerary and didn’t interest us. Since the sunrise was missed due to the weather, we were particularly looking forward to relaxing at the hot springs, which unfortunately felt rushed. Advice to other travelers: Make sure to read the fine print carefully and stay attentive to the schedule. Overall, while parts of the trip were enjoyable, the experience was disappointing."
