Mount Fuji

The 5th Station of Mount Fuji is a popular starting point for climbers and a great spot to experience the majestic mountain. We’ll go to fifth station if it’s open for vans and if weather permits. Please be informed that the government has recently introduced a new shuttle system for access to the 5th Station in order to manage crowd levels during the busy season. Private cars and vans are currently not allowed to go directly to the 5th Station. If you would like to visit the 5th Station, the driver will wait for you in the designated parking area while you take the shuttle. Kindly note: The round trip to the 5th Station via shuttle typically takes around 3 hours, so you may need to adjust the time spent at the remaining destinations accordingly to ensure a timely return to Tokyo.

It might be wise to start early due to traffic. All in all a great experience with our very friendly driver Asad.

From the very beginning, our day trip to Mt. Fuji with Sunny was handled with the utmost professionalism, courtesy, and care. He reached out to us early in the morning via text to let us know he was just minutes away, which instantly made us feel well taken care of. True to his word, he arrived at 7:30 a.m. sharp in the hotel lobby, ready with a clean, spacious 7/8-seater vehicle that was perfect for our group. There was ample legroom and the car ride itself was very smooth and comfortable—a great start to what became a memorable journey. The drive to Mt. Fuji took about two hours, and Sunny made sure we had opportunities to stop for refreshments and restroom breaks as needed. What stood out early on was his calm and friendly demeanor. He was incredibly well-informed about Japanese history, culture, and local customs, and he shared everything in such an engaging and easy-to-understand way. His explanations made us feel connected to the places we visited rather than just being passive observers. He also had an excellent sense of humor and instantly made the group feel relaxed and entertained throughout the ride. Sunny was extremely thoughtful with the itinerary. He adjusted the schedule based on the weather conditions and our preferences. The morning was initially quite cloudy, and we were worried that we might not get to see Mt. Fuji. But Sunny kept our spirits high and assured us that weather could shift—and he was right! By late morning, the clouds began to break apart, and we got absolutely breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji. He knew exactly which scenic points would give us the best photos and timed everything perfectly to avoid crowds. Our first major stop was Oshino Hakkai, a quaint and picturesque village with crystal-clear spring ponds. Sunny explained the history and spiritual significance of the area while also giving us enough time to wander, shop, and take photos. We then proceeded to the historic Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine. The peaceful atmosphere and the beautiful architecture were truly captivating, and again, Sunny enriched the visit with his thoughtful commentary. Instead of doing the popular Hakone Pirate Ship ride, we took Sunny’s suggestion and opted for the cable car experience. It turned out to be an excellent decision! The views over Lake Kawaguchiko were panoramic and breathtaking, and once again Mt. Fuji revealed itself in all its glory. We never felt rushed—Sunny always allowed us the time to absorb the views and enjoy each location fully. For lunch, he took us to a lovely restaurant that served delicious meals at very fair prices. It wasn’t a tourist trap—just good food in a scenic setting. After lunch, we visited Oishi Park, which was full of vibrant flowers and offered fantastic photo opportunities with Fuji in the background. Sunny encouraged us to try the local blueberry ice cream—and he wasn’t wrong—it was absolutely delicious! Our final stop was the famous Arakurayama Sengen Park, home to the iconic pagoda view of Mt. Fuji. Unfortunately, the weather turned again and Fuji became shy, hiding behind the clouds. The steep slope to reach the viewing point was quite a challenge, and after making it partway, some of us decided to turn back. But even without the perfect view, the atmosphere was serene and beautiful. Throughout the entire day, Sunny went far above and beyond. His attention to detail, his ability to read the group’s energy, and his flexibility in reshaping the day based on what would make it most enjoyable for us were truly impressive. His mix of professionalism, humor, and cultural insight created a perfect balance. It didn’t feel like a tour—it felt like being shown around by a local friend who genuinely cared about giving us the best experience possible. To sum it up, this was not just a sightseeing tour—it was a beautifully crafted experience from beginning to end. Every member of our group was deeply impressed, and we all agreed that Sunny’s guidance is what turned a regular tour into an unforgettable memory. If you are thinking about a Mt. Fuji day trip, do not hesitate—book with Sunny. You will be in excellent hands!

This experience was a complete disaster. The “guide” got there before time which was fine and we started our journey. He was a young man with NO experience at all in the area. When we asked him about the itinerary of the day, he asked us where we want to go; he didn’t have any suggestion as where to go or do. He took us to an ice cream parlor to take some pictures of Mount Fuji. Once we told him we are ready to continue to Hakone, he took his cellphone out of his pocket to show us a extremely graphic/ not appropriate video of an accident somewhere in the world in front of our 4 little kids (Never ever do that in front of kids) and told us that unfortunately we cannot go to Hakone as the roads where “CLoSEd” for the rest of the day. It sounded to us so doggy that we checked at our end at the official Hakone road website and all the roads were open; when we told him he realized we were not dumb and immediately had to change his attitude about the whole tour. He noticed we were far from happy with his initial attitude and he offered us to make a quick stop in a Japanese Village and then to Hakone. On our way to Hakone we asked him to please take us to an area with restaurants as the kids were hungry. He told us to take the ropeway, to go down at togendai and that there it will be a lot of restaurants. It was already 1:30pm. By the time we arrived to togendai it was already 2:10pm and all restaurants around were closed. How an experienced guide can missed that all restaurants close at 2pm. The lady from the Info kiosk at the station had to find us an open restaurant that was about 15 mins away driving to have lunch. As a guide it was a disaster, but even worst, the company that hired him and assigned to us. This is totally unacceptable to advertise a tour when we just got a driver to try to scam us. We definitively will not use Viator services anymore as they don’t do proper pre check of their service provider. This is such an a bad experience that we will make sure to let everyone we know not to use Viator services anymore.

  • The locations we visited...

The locations we visited were nice- but advise you to skip the ropeway. Way too much time in lins (up and down)for the view. I was disappointed in what seemsd a lack of clarity. Afi our guide asked what order. We said whatever is best to be able to view Mt Fuji while clear skies. He took us to a lake view and encouraged trying the ice cream right before lunch- so we weren’t really hungry. I didn’t feel it was clear if we stayed at the lake we couldn’t do two of the stops we most wanted. He had offered to extend the time for a few- which just felt like a sales pitch. Also did not use hotel address to pick up- but kept insisting on dropping a pin- which from my room directed somehow to a place 10 min walk away. And he would not move to come get us or count that time towards our trip. Overall- we had a nice day but not the tour I had hoped for.
