Arc de Triomphe
A unique viewpoint. From the top of the panoramic terrace, your eyes sweep over the whole of Paris. The revisited Antiquity. Architect Jean-François Chalgrin was inspired by the Roman Arch of Titus in a single arch, but went beyond it by exceptional dimensions (about 50 m high, 45 m long and 22 m wide) and abandoning columns. A key place of major national events. Wanted by Napoleon in 1806, the Arc de Triomphe was inaugurated in 1836 by French king, Louis-Philippe, who dedicated it to the armies of the Revolution and the Empire. The Unknown Soldier was buried at the base of the arch in 1921. The flame of remembrance is rekindled every day at 18:30.

Viator let us book tickets for a day/time when the Arc was closed so we didn’t get to enter even with our tickets.

Great historical monument that should be a part of a person’s visit to Paris. Informative video at the level just below the top. Amazing views of the city. Printed our admission tickets at the hotel so had the digital ones and hard copy backup. When you exit at ground level after going to the top be sure to go back down to the tunnel to pass under the street rather than trying to dodge traffic to get back to the pedestrian sidewalks.

This was a fun activity I did by myself. I felt very safe and enjoyed it. I am traveling with my 80 year old mother and she opted out and I was glad she did. It would have been too much for her. While I climbed the stairs not problem, she would have struggled. Even with the lift, there are still a good amount of stairs to the top. I loved it and am glad I went on my own. The views are amazing and helps put the whole city in perspective. If you are able to climb and get your heart pumping, I highly recommend this!
