You can experience making Japanese sweets at your host's home. Friendly to family! We will teach you how to make traditional Japanese sweets in a simple way so that you can make them for your family and friends back in your country. Of course, you can take the recipe home with you. We use ingredients that are easily available in your own country. The ingredients are very simple, naturally derived, and healthful. The host's house is a typical Japanese old nostalgic house, so you can have a precious experience as if you were invited to a Japanese friend's house. There is a tea ceremony room in the house. Sangenjaya, where the class is located, is a five-minute train ride from Shibuya, but it is still unknown to foreign tourists. It is a very popular place for Japanese people. There are many ramen shops and izakayas with traditional red lanterns.

Let's make Japanese sweets together in a typical Japanese home, a traditional Japanese culture. Wagashi, especially anko (red bean paste), is a very healthy food. In addition to making mochi and wagashi, we will also introduce the history of mochi. We will teach you various ways to eat mochi. Since they are made with simple recipes, you will be able to make them yourself for your family and friends after you return to your country. Sangenjaya, where the class is held, is a very pleasant town located 5 minutes from Shibuya. There are many Ramen shops and traditional Japanese pubs. It is not a town you will find in many guidebooks, but it is surely a town where you can enjoy the whole day, and you will be able to fully enjoy yourself even after the lessons are over.

My son & I had the most authentic, FUN experience learning how to make mochi from an amazing teacher, Sakura-san! We took the class in her lovely home not far from Shibuya. Not only was Sakura-san incredibly kind & patient (we are not the cooks in the family 😊) but she also taught us about the history & cultural significance of what we were making. We are so grateful we had this opportunity and would recommend this experience 100% to anyone wanting a unique, authentic, wholly enjoyable experience. The two bonuses were 1) the deliciousness of the mochi and 2) Sakura-san’s adorable & perfectly behaved assistant 🐶

Our whole family (ages 14, 18, 20) enjoyed everything about this experience: the brief explanation of the history of mochi, the hands on learning, and the gentle, patient tutelage. We also enjoyed eating the products of our labor!

Sakura was fabulous! She shared the history of Mochi as well as making sure that each of the members of our party were understanding each step of the process of making the Mochi. This experience is a must and you can't have a better teacher than Sakura. She made us feel at home in her house and shared family experiences with us. She even had to go packaging so we could take our sweets with us.

We had a fantastic afternoon learning how to make mochi with Sakura. Great family experience as my two teenage daughters thoroughly enjoyed it. Sakura not only shows how to make the mochi but also tells you some of the history behind it which was really interesting. She also has great patience when your mochi looks a little lumpy! The fact that you do the class in her lovely home makes it even more quaint and unique. Highly recommend for both young and old!
