Ta Phin Village
Sapa – Suoi Thau – Ma Tra – Ta Phin – Sapa The tour begins at 9 am. Trekkingtoursapa’s guide will meet you at your hotel in Sapa town or in front of Sapa’s main church. After a short introduction, we will walk 5 minutes to a small trail where you will get to see the cardamom trees in the small valleys (one of the most precious fruit in Sapa) and then hiking down to Suoi Ho, a small village of Black Hmong minority (the houses are old and small). Meeting some animals used by local people such as the water buffalo, chickens, dogs, pigs etc. You will get to see the beautiful landscape of rice terrace fields and mountains. We will then continue the trekking on a small road (inside the rice paddies) to Ma Tra village where we will have lunch at a small restaurant run by a traditional Hmong family with an outdoor patio with amazing views. After lunch, we will make our way to Ta Phin village where you will see both Black Hmong and Red Dao minorities. The Hmong have unique marriage traditions; the Red Dao are known for their expertise in herbal medicine as well as usage of plants from the land to treat many illnesses. You will also get to see Ta Phin Cave Cave which goes very deep into the the mountains as well as see the women make brocade products to sell. Transport will be provided from Ta Phin back to Sapa. End of the tour.

Pang was our incredible guide. We heard the very best stories and information about her life as a Hmong ethnic minority woman. The scenery was as spectacular as her! We loved it all. Be aware though this is a full day tour and not an "easy" stroll.

The "Sapa Easy Trekking Tour" is a great way to experience Sapa's beauty and culture. Our guide, Zhu, was fantastic! She shared insightful knowledge about the region's nature and traditions. The ~11km trek is manageable, mostly on paved roads with some scenic paths. Highlights include rice terraces, local villages, and a bamboo forest. A few slightly challenging downhill sections add some excitement. The tour ends in Ta Phin village, with a taxi ride back to Sapa. Highly recommended for a moderate trek with cultural immersion!

This is the worst local tour experience that I have. I was the only participant in the tour but the guide could not care less to my repeated requests to slow down the pace when we were passing through some rather slippery slopes (I emphasised that safety should be the primary concern and it would be fine even if we could not visit all the spots). Instead, all he cared was texting and talking though the phone throughout the tour (since I do not know Vietnamese, I had no idea what those phone calls were about but I think it is still quite unprofessional even if they were work-related). At one point, I was even left on the trail with no clue where he had been gone. The only time that I was not in a sense of hurry was the lunch time, as the guide was very engaged in working with his computer that I had to wait for him to finish his works before we could on the road again. Eventually we managed to finish the tour more than an hour ahead of the schedule. The guide then left me in the tour office for me to wait for my return bus to Hanoi as he wished to “return home early”. Since the guide was ahead of me most of the time, he hardly provided any information about the place and the culture. Even if I asked, his responses were short and hardly informative. The view that you can see from the tour was rather average. So warning - don't waste your time and money on this tour!
