Melvin and his team make this experience truly wonderful! A full day of seeing so many beautiful DR beaches! Lunch was a true Dominican lunch. I would definitely recommend this tour especially if you’re staying at a resort with a bunch of seaweed. Saona island had no seaweed when we went and it was truly beautiful!

After reading many reviews, our family decided on the small group tour of Saona Island and we could not have been more pleased. Our family of 10, plus two others, enjoyed a quick 25 minute speedboat ride to Mano Juan. Here we learned about the towns history and visited the turtle conservatory. Although no turtles were hatching the day we visited, we still were able to learn a great deal. Our tour guide, Melvin and his wife were so compassionate about this town and the things they are doing to preserve nature. They bought each person on the tour a bottle of pure coconut oil to help the turtle fund and show their gratitude to us for booking their tour. After hopping back on the speedboat and taking another 5-10 minute ride, we arrived at Saona Island. The only thing I can say is it was breathtaking. We were the ONLY people here. We were able to take tons of pictures, swim with the sea creatures and know what it felt like to have an island in paradise all to ourselves. About two hours after we arrived boats jam packed full of people started arriving. When I say jam packed, I mean standing room only. These boats would anchor out at sea and transport people into the island by small boat. If that sounds relaxing and fun to you, feel free to book a party tour. Personally this did not look relaxing or enjoyable to me at all!! This site made me even more grateful for booking the small group tour. Melvin and his wife cooked us chicken and set up tables for lunch while we were enjoying the island. Our group sat and had lunch together while again other groups stood in long lines waiting to be served at their tour pavilion. After lunch we got back on our boat and went to the mangroves area. We were able to witness a sea turtle swimming around in its own habitat! Next we stopped at a sand bar and enjoyed some time in the middle of the water. Here we found starfish and were taught how to hold them and enjoy them without causing them any harm. Again, shortly before we were ready to leave another boat full of people arrived. I’m not sure how so many people could truly enjoy the tranquility of this location. Our final activity was snorkeling at a reef. Here we were able to see some fish and other aquatic life. Overall I cannot say enough good about this trip. Our entire family thought this was the highlight of our vacation. Melvin and his wife made us feel like part of their family the entire time. I would recommend this tour to anyone and know for a fact if we ever get the chance to return to DR again, we will be booking this tour again!

Melvin and his team are the BEST! This is the only trip to the island I would recommend. He taught us about history in the Caribbean as well as took us to a local sea turtle conservation project. This tour has so, so much value for the money and is well worth every penny. Some of the funds go to local schools as well as the sea turtle conservation efforts! I feel that you get much more than a standard tour around the same price. We did multiple stops and activities including looking for starfish and sea turtles in the wild!! The island is stunning and with the early start time you get to enjoy it peacefully before any crowds. Breakfast and lunch are provided and both are excellent! Melvin and his team checked on everyone constantly through the day to make sure they had photos taken, were enjoying their time, and even made sure we always had something to drink. Any photos he takes are provided at no cost after! There are so many great reasons to book this tour and I'm so happy we did!!!

Natalie and Melvin were awesome guides who taught us about Saona Island and its people. We got to meet locals and see their work with turtles, sunbathe on the beautiful Saona Island, hold starfish on a sand bar, see a sea turtle among the mangroves, and snorkel. It was a great experience with excellent guides. This tour starts EARLY but there’s a reason for that- they try and beat the crowds from other tours that go straight to the beach. Definitely worth it to get in before everyone else.
